Ill be honest with ya fella's......if that short wheelbase version came on sale here in Australia...I'd find it very difficult to hang on to my current hilux.....

Imagine that offroad....4" lift, 35" muddies, factory lockers...and if you need more storage space, just get a trailer

Short wheel base I'd be keen but that ute is hideous... It's almost pornographic in a bad sence...

I'd love to fit one of the motors to a Hilux though... The rumble of a v8.... the power to make the country you live in change time zones... mmmmmmm

mmaaxx,

Not sure whether I would want the dual cab or the shorty. I just wish we had the choice!!!!!!!!

What country is it they are in? Maybe we could import them ourselves?

Steve.

Just a slight rear overhang issue with the dual cab - that and the fact that it is petrol model
I have nothing good to say down here so I wont say anything at all

I think they are from the Arab Emirates, they usually get all versions of all 4x4's that toyota produce.

Like South Africa for example, they get the same hilux as we do but they are the only market that gets the electric rear diff lock.....go figure...you'd think toyota australia would have pushed for that to be atleast an option here.

the dual cab is just wrong, it looks like a half assed back yard job, but i would love a new shorty the one i've got at the moment rattles the bones a bit..

Shane I agree.
Looks like the tub is part of the bodywork. So you couldnt fix the look by fitting a tray back. Looks like they have simply cut the roof off and extended the back of the wagon to give it a larger tub.
If you were to fit a canopy to this it would just be a crusier wagon with a longer back.
This was always the mod I was hoping toyota would offer in Australia but after seeing it.. Im really happy with the hilux. ;) ;) ;)
Reckon the wheelbase sould be extended by a foot at least to make it look right. And the abiltiy to fit a tray back on it. They would probably come up with a bloody great ute......
Just my thoughts.
Cheers
Skog.
Thanks for the pics Mmaaaxx

Fugly seems a fair call. They should have used the chassis off the cab chassis or at least the troopy; they're longer than the hilux (I think nearly 3200mm). Problem is that they would have to fill-in rear wheel arches and create new tub. Like I've mentioned before, the hilux dual cab body on a 'cruiser chassis and running gear would be a good experiment. I'm sure there's some on the forum who could rise to the challenge! :D :D :D

The Ute doesn't look like it's a factory job, it's looks more like a custom job to me as they didn't extend the wheel base and they still have barn doors cut down on the tub.
I agree with you Mark, they would have to extend the wheel base to make it look right!

Or you could back it over an embankment and camp with your extended family underneath the overhang. Or back two of them from either side of the Yarra to make a new bridge.

It'd handle really well if you put 500kg in the tub don't you think? I like the aggressive tread pattern on the tyres too.

Whilst the topic heading isnt right. This is a local custom that would fit the bill nicely.
If she had a front live axle id seriously consider parting with the lux for this one.
Cripp found this one...
