start with a petrol sr5 and then put 20k into it and you would have a lot nicer truck than that i reckon. but then resale will probably be better with a genuine TRD so..., but id still start with a sr5
how many times did they mention they don't include the lid. It will look pretty stupid with those stripes without it. There will be another 2g's. love the increase into a 265 size wheel though. But still, I think the accountants probably had more say then the design team in the final production.
Will the TRD model take pressure off the face change which must be coming soon. If they are putting in the 5 speed prado auto in the diesel Ill be the first to buy.
Not for me thank you.
No diesel and no manual = massive fail.
It's not gonna be any good for 4WDing. At least I could drive my 'Lux from the dealer and not damage it on the dirt roads.
If you want a "Sports Tough Truck" try importing from the US. Sportier, tougher and probably cheaper. With a big donk too. Like a GMC Sierra 3500HD. 6.6L T-diesel V8 with too many dealer options to poke a stick at. Everything from lower diff gears and skid plates to heated wiper fluid and spare wheel lock.
Sorry to carry on, but this seems like an insult to Australians.
I think its interesting timing for the release of the TRD.. as i was expecting a new shape in 09.. maybe now they're going to put that off and focus on the TRD ? if not, then they really are wasting their time with it, esp if a new shape comes in in 09..
a new model in 09 would only be a face change wouldn't it plus a few more kw's. A twin turbo would be awesome but it would probably be a two stage small then larger turbo. Whats the point of two in a four cylinder diesel?
they have already revamped the 4 cylinder, and the new V8.
all thats left is for a S6 or V6 to replace the existing 6.
the current 6 is from 97 so its about time for a refresher.
I cant see the V6 Petroll changing yet tho, the 2GR that the aurion has, has the kw, but not the torque, but its a possibility.
As for diesel They seem to be abel to get more and more kw/torque out of the 4 now, so maybe there is no need for a 6 cyclinder diesel and they will stick with the 4. Perhaps the updated prado D4D and go straight to adding a v8 to the model lineup.
dunno about v8's.. all the manufacturers are gearing more towards economy these days.. i mean look at GM gearing back all their big gas guzzlers.. and it'll happen here as well.. thats where the resale on diesels will kick arse.. you already see a dozen ads on TV for astra / VW / BMW diesels now..
the v8 turbo diesel 'may' be an option, as it is with the landcruiser.. but they have to watch their market.. and gauge what it is that people want to buy... thats why i think the 4cyl diesel will remain..
Hybrids.. definately.. as they become more financially viable / affordable more and more people will opt for them.. as because 'most' hiluxs are work type vehicles there may be a call there for a hybrid release.. especially since the govt wants to make business responsible for carbon offsets in the future.. a hybrid vehicle would cover that per vehicle .. so that may be an option they're seriously looking at..
Posts : 261 jcarter problem with hybrid would be i think its place would be down in the workmate range but the price tag usualy associated with hybrid then takes away the value that tradies and buisness seem to like out of the Workmate.
The 70 series v8 seems pretty economical as it is Maximum Power 151kW @ 3400rpm Maximum Torque 430Nm @ 1200rpm 11l per 100km
Still less than my v6 4l, not much more than D4D fuel wise, but a decent~ boost in number.
but realy could probably add that to the D4D 3l with a turbo model.
Can't see how TRD and Hybrid should be used in the same sentence ???
sure, the manufacturer will probably move more towards hybrids for some purposes; but TRD is supposed to be the flagship 'performance' wing - like HSV is to Holden. There's still an eager market lining up for 6L HSV's and the like, so maybe they should've looked at putting an a V8 in the 'lux - especially for the reported money they're asking !
It seems they've just taken a 'tack on' approach to upgrade a few bits and pieces, whilst missing the point as to what we all want !
if we wanted a comfy, ballsy less capable off roader with carpet and leather seats - there's plenty of vehicles around that fit the bill
I think Toyota/TRD have really missed their chance to be trailblazers of a new evolution of offroad/sports vehicles that we all strive to create by modifying our standard vehicles !
around 70000 drive away. How would the v8 diesel fit in our engine bay without a complete re-engineer? they had to widen the 75 series to make it fit. A v8 hilux won't happen. I say bring on a v6 turbo diesel with piezeo injectors
steve9R, in regard to the hybrid topic.......you heard it here first, toyota will be bringing out a camry hybrid mid next year....official notification in media will come next month.....that will enable it to have awesome fuel economy from the 4 cylinder and V6 like torque on tap.
sorry to hijack, but if it does take off, I think a 4 litre V6 hybrid would work well in a Hilux....thou yeah, it'd cost more.
