Ok time has come to give my Lux a bit more traction just not sure whether to go TJM Pro Lockers or ARB Air Lockers , i am plannning on going front and rear and my mechanic is trying to sway me towards the pro lockers anyone using them ?

He recons they are better but he will also supply and fit both brands ,i am just not sure about tjm

i dont know about the tjm one way or the other so i don't really have an opinion on it, but you would have to agree the arb airlocker is tryed and proven both here and overseas

i have had two landcruisers with arb lockers in the front and rear and i would never buy any other brand

Sometimes a salseperson will recommend the product he can get the biggest margin on.

Not saying this is the case, but I have heard and seen ARB lockers on our trucks that spray oil out the air actuator valve.

If the TJM ones have a different design that prevents this from happening, they might be on a winner even if the price is a bit higher than the ARBones which I think is the case.

Can anyone clarify this?

I have a friend with a Patrol with fron t and rear lockers and he loves them. No need to fit air lines so he found the installation a bit easier. They do the same thing ultimately so get the one for the better price.

Go hit ebay and look for Just differentials for great prices on air lockers.

TJM lockers are fine... also I think they are the only ones to do both front and back... I personnally dont have one but several guys at work do...

I think TJM/ARB or Detroit all have reputations to protect so will all do a good job depending upon application (Detroit being a full time locker without the need for compressor)

I have the ARB, rear only, and really, I think that either one is probably as good as the other.. However, I would ceratinly give a second think to putting one in the front.. have a read of some of the other threads on here.. a few people have had front lockers with not so good results.. I just dont think the front CVs are up to it.. BTW, I have taken my truck to some awsome places, some of which I would never have gotten there except for the rear locker... havent had a need for a front one yet.. maybe money better spent on another accessory??? havent looked too far into this topic but how much is it for a rear arb locker installed? i already have the compressor if that helps?

Checked the invoices for Feb, and I got my locker installed for $1200 including GST complete. Included the wiring looms and all the gear. I already have the compressor like you. Not sure if if this the hottest price around but the dealer I have used has backed there product up 100%. Ie. Trying to resolve the OME issues of front end sag, 10mm worth of packers under strut free of charge, pinched Cv boot (not their fault wheel aligners) fixed free of charge and I even offer to pay for the boot and some of the labour and was declined. I felt in fairness I should pay for the boot due to wear and tare 35000k and the fact that I got a new one at the fault of their wheel aligner. GME radio aerial broken and fixed free of charge and having a go at shifting the longranger over to stop it from fouling the springs. I recommend the Arb simply due to customer service that I have received.
And the locker is an absolute treat.

If your Hilux has LSD or comes with the rear Diff lock, would it still make sense to install an air locker?

If you install a rear locking diff, the standard LSD will be redundant.

Anyway, Toyota's standard LSD are not known for their reliability. I hear that Nissan's LSD are far better.

And if your Hilux comes with the original electric diff locker, then you do not need a ARB air locker as they do the same thing.

I have been looking into this too,

Both units look good, minor differences only.

I'm leaning towards the ARB mainly due to, in my opinion, a better (lighter more compact) compressor and a little cheaper.

I've been quoted $1,950 to supply and fit including CKMA 12 compressor and tyre air up kit.

TJM $2,200!!!

Initially it will go into my Prado (Cape York trip in 6 weeks) then they will swap it out into the Ute for $600

Still to price one from Jack McNamara, I have been told the other two are copies of his, and Harrop Engineering should have the Eaton E Locker on the market soon.

What is the budget only allows for one locker.

What would you go for. Rear or front.

Also by installing the lockers will this make the ABS, LSD redundant

The LSD center is removed in place of the locker on the rear end. You get the LSD center back in the box that the locker comes in. The diff performs like an open diff on any standard car and does not work automatically like the LSD or a Detriot trutrac. You have to manually activate it via a switch on the dash which then truely locks the diff so it is like a solid axle. It would not effect the ABS if it is not activated, but you dont drive around at fast speeds anyways with it activated. And to drive "locked" on the road for prolonged distances would cause diff and drivetrain damage.
I would instal a locker in the rear in place of the LSD if the budget allows for it.

I will be fitting a rear arb air locker in the SR5 ... interested where people put the compressor, as I don't have the truck yet not sure if it would fit into the engine bay. There is space under the dual cab rear seats this could be a possibility.

Will just fit above the ABS brakes in the engine bay, under the rear seat as you say, or under the passenger seat.

If you don't want a dual battery, there is plenty of room on the LHS where it goes, but not an option for many of us.

My compressor is under the drivers seat. PLenty of room. The theory goes that rear locker works best due to weight transfer when climbing (usually when lockers are needed).

I went front first and it does help as the front is the first wheels to lift. My rear locker goes in Thursday - both ARB.
I have nothing good to say down here so I wont say anything at all

Thanks for the input guys ,i do prefer ARB gear to TJM might even get them to install it instead of the mechanic. What is the go with the front locker what sort of problems have people had ?
