Ok so while others are going the sas im going to go a different track....
My plan is to keep the lux IFS
However I want to end up with a longtravel setup like the tacoma's in the states.
Eventualy it should have new LCA's maybe a diff drop bracket kit etc etc etc along with prado brakes and a few other bits just dont tell the mrs !!!! she thinks its finished hahahaha
So I'm wanting to open abit of discusion on this as hopfully it will help me make my mind up on products, parts and also get a few idears off you guys as to what others have done and setups etc you have seen, know about etc. so if you find anything let me know !!!!
The first upgrade will be the cv's. These are a few im looking at. I really like the rcv performance set up as it has a completly new inner joint and will allow for the travel im looking for. However i have to send a replacement set to the US. I have a spare set of stock after market cv's brand new that i got for $70 that i could send over and see if they will take them. The other option is getting the coating / rebuild that yuri 4x4 do on my stock toyota ones, this was the plan and why i bought the spares, so i could put the cheapys in while i sent the toyota ones away. Option 3 is a bigger replacement set like monster rides is looking into and then maybe doing the yuri coating / rebuild to them....
GHG how did you go with your new cv's?
RCV Performance
https://www.rcvperformance.com/store/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=37&products_id=84"RCV Performance has completely redesigned the inboard joint replacing the fragile factory set-up. The RCV Performance Ultimate Tacoma inboard joint allows for more articulation on lifted Tacoma's. The billet aerospace alloy center bar is heat treated for maximum strength and torsional flexing. The OEM outboard is beefed up with chromoly internals. All sales are done on an exchange basis. An OEM axle with a usable outboard joint must be sent in for this upgrade. The outboard joint itself is pretty stout and to keep the cost down it is rebuilt with upgrades internal components by one of our factory trained technicians. All RCV components guaranteed against breakage and 100% customer satisfaction guaranteed or your money back."
Yuri 4x4
http://www.yuri4x4.com/about_yuri.php"Drive it Hard!!! Save money, and increase your chances of making it through tough tracks or rock-crawling competitions without breaking CV's - especially when wheeling large tyres.
Hi Tensile 4140 machined rings* welded to specially prepped and heat-treated Birfield cores using special rods. Increases strength at full lock. They look great too, with a smooth, polished finish.
Tested in competition with 42" tyres"
"I have been more than happy with the treated and reinforced CVs from Yuri4x4 for my IFS Toyota Surf. I had broken 6 CVs before getting the treated CVs and am yet to break one Yuri4x4 CV. I have since installed a V8 in the Surf and am still yet to break a CV. The service from Damien at Yuri4x4 has been fantastic and I am amazed at his willingness to help.
I have had Yuri4x4 CVs installed in my vehicle for 6 months now and the vehicle is driven offroad at least twice a month. Most trips seem to be a never-ending search for the weak points in the vehicle but now the CVs appear to be crossed off the list. The latest problem I have had was tearing the front diff mounts off the crossmember!!"
Monster RIdes
http://www.monsterrides.com.au/"Hey Fellas,
We have just about sorted some new CV's for the Hilux... much stronger and with better flex.
The specs on the CV's we will offer:
1.5 mm heavier shaft
15 mm extra extension at the CV... which equates to about 4" extra travel at the wheel.
Outside cup is 10mm bigger... making CV cup wall heavier."
