New Toyota Hilux recalled about to be announced.

Postby Hilux Max on Fri, 21 Sep 2007 7:10 +0000

Hey guys, important one for us Hilux people. A new Toyota authorised recall is about to be released for the new hilux in the first or second week of October.

The problem affect all model Hilux built between March 05 and March 07.

The problem has to do with the actual metal bracket part of the bonnet latch, underneath the bonnet that goes into the latch/lock itself.

Toyota has found that after many highway kilometres over corrugations and rough terrain the metal braket part of it below the bonnet has gotten a crack in the weld and bonnet on some affected vehicle have flown up.

There is a fix for it, the dealer will do it, I will get pics for you tomorrow and post em tomorrow night.

Its basically a panel that goes across the whole under side of the bonnet over the affected area and is glued and pop riveted on to strengthen the bonnet at the front and to reduce vibrations which are the cause of the faulty bonnet latches.

Just a heads up for you blokes, I too am affected by this but only just.

Personally, will not worry about it till it shits itself, but just thought Id give yas a head up.

With so many lux's here you would have thought someone would have posted something on this problem! There's so many other little problems they have not had a recall on, note clutch. I'll have to update my detail with Toyota Australia as I bought my 4b second hand. Has there be any other recalls before?

That's good to know. I'm due for a service next month so I'll ask about it if no formal mail has been sent by then.

I agree with Doug67 - the clutch needs a recall too.

Ok Fella's, heres the pics -

Sorry for the poor quality, in was taken off my mobile.

Toyota is currently sending one or two technicians from each dealership to the Toyota Training Centre in Port Melbourne to get a run down of this fix. I was going to send mine down as a donor to work on but had to go home early, bugger!

Anyway, it involves (going by the book) removing the bonnet, placing it on some sort of jig to hold it, putting sticky paper inside the bonnet to catch the filling when you srill the hills to pop rivet the panel in place so it doesnt hang around and rust inside the bonnet.

The panel you see in the pics strengthens the whole front part of the bonnet and reduces it from vibrating as much.

Now look carefully at the close up of the latch and you can see a bracket that goes around the latch, Im assuming for more strength and support and attaches to the panel going across the bonnet.

Thats all I can tell ya's from my end. If I find out more I'll pass it on.

Like I said, Not all dealers will have caught up to this yet, so dont go knocking on their doors saying you heard of a bloke on the internet coz I dont think it'll get ya far, till the announcement has been made official.

Yeah, and like Doug said, you would have thought they would have targeted some other problems first.

Thats Toyota for ya ;)

Query for all,

Weeeellll (tongue in cheek) . . . who cares if you're cruisin' down the road doing 100 km / 110 km (legal limit out here) & the bonnet flies up, kills your visability & you have a head-on or BIG time "kiss a tree" (hmmm a bit negative to say the least . . . but hey . . . this could happen!!) due to this known "recall factor".

Who is liable at the end of the day? The operator of the vehicle . . . or . . . Toyota???

This sucks . . . NO company should not sychronise recalls when it 'suits' them . . . BUT AS SOON AS THEY, AS A COMPANY REALISES THE SAFETY ISSUE ASAP!!

NOT my live by law "Treat others as you would like to be treated".

Commiserations to the poor blighters out there (how would Toyota know about this issue otherwise??) who may have already experienced this senario or similar to date!

Damn, im wondering if sounds vibrating from my front are from my bonnet !! Have been playing with my rubber stoppers to stop the vibration and sounds ! This was after i had an accident and my front bumper was replaced plus my bonnet was also damaged so noise and vibration could be from effect of my accident.:(
