mmaaxx,
My builder mate got his 100 series done by creative conversions in QLD. He went for the six wheeler option because the wagons don't have the carrying capacity of the 70 series with just the single axle. I reckon the converted 70 series wagon you've shown would still have a reasonable payload but the wheel base would probably be around 3400mm; about 200mm longer than the 70 series single cab chassis and a bit longer than the 130 landrover (approx. 3300mm).

The Hilux from memory has just under 3100mm, mind you the front axle should probably be about 50-100mm further forward to give a less front-heavy vehicle and better approach angles. Dare I mention the Navara has a wheelbase of 3200mm; this is almost all due to it's front axle being further forward. With standard factory suspension the Navara out-handles the Hilux and I reckon this is due to better weight distribution.

One certainty is that the turning circle would be hideous unless the new 70 series is better than the old.
IF A MAN TALKS IN THE FOREST AND THERE IS NO WOMAN TO HEAR HIM, IS HE STILL WRONG?

But a little bit too long. :(

Id buy one in flash if it came from the factory. Particulary if it came in an auto as well.

I see Toyota sent three hundred Tundras down to Venezuela , I wonder how they will do there , gas must be cheap there .

never liked the look of the tundra, but as said it certainly has lots of aftermarket quip avail.

Id like to see toyota drop the Rav4 and replace it with the Fortuner, given the size of the rav4 has realy grown in the most recent update, its not exactly that much smaller than the hilux, and with some more part sharing between the fortuner and the hilux might see even more after market gear flow in.

infact looked at the specs

Rav 4
Overall width: CV & CV6- 1815mm (Overall width: Cruiser, Cruiser L, SX6, ZR6 - 1855mm)
Overall length: 4625mm
Overall height: CV & CV6- 1695mm,(Overall height: Cruiser, Cruiser L, SX6, ZR6 - 1730mm)

Towing capacity≠
Without trailer brakes - 750kg
L4 With trailer brakes - 1500kg
V6 With trailer brakes - 1900kg

Fortuner
Overall length: 4,695mm
Overall width 1,840mm
Overall height: 1,850mm
Without trailer brakes - 750kg
With trailer brakes - 2250kg

size wise there is not alot of difference.

That is one BIG RIG

Good luck fitting that in a standard garage.....an offroad version owuld be nice but the thing would be too big to go down any tracks......

only good for horse float duties.

On the Gold Coast there is a black f750 dually with about a metre of lift number plate BIG RIG. Seriously huge.
Can't wait to see the new tundra getting around. I saw some in the states last year and they are awesome.

If the hilux is consistently top 3 in Aus then there should have been a strong enough business case to sell Tundra's from the dealer. Suppose this would take business from the 200 but thats not selling particularly well compared to the 100.

Food for thought

Id rather the gen 2 Tacoma over the Tundra any day. The Tundra is just a F-250 (big, ugly and no good for 4x4 use). Just a little truck, only good for towing

Yeah they are big and tuff trucks, but like simon said, they are really impractical other than towing on the road.

I had the pleasure of driving the Tundra and had a good look over the Tacoma last year in the states. The 5.7lt V8 goes like a dog shot in the arse! It is ridiculously fast for a rig that size. The Tacoma, although very similar to the Hilux really doesn't compare. I'd prefer the Hilux any day, especially as both yank models don't come in diesel.
