I think its going to be at least another 4 years until they make any real decent changes, like Traction and stability control, better transmissions, brakes etc.

New hilux 2009

Postby 4Hilux on Mon, 11 Aug 2008 11:46 +0000

Rich, having driven a Prado 4.0 V6, with traction & stability control, I reckon they can keep it outa the utes, unless they still include a big OFF button........

Happy to admit we were driving it really really hard (under controlled circumstances - closed off-road high speed track), showing people how to drive in hostile situations, but it was a fairly 'average' feeling when all the electronic rubbish was turmed on. As soon as it got biffed into a corner hard, the stability control kicked in, cut the engine power, & then 2.3T of Prado just understeers 'off into the shrubbery'. (Well, it woulda if there was no run-off area on the corner......!!). Turned off, at least it allows power to be kept on.......

BTW - I reckon the 'face-lift' Lux looks bloody awfull too........
Certainly would'nt inspire me to rush out & trade mine in on it.....

4 hilux, thanks, kind of makes me feel better in that I am not missing out on those gadgets.

I have heard people say the stability control is the best invention (safety wise) since seat belts...

Rich, all the electronic crap fitted to new vehicles, is no subsitute for having a decent driver behind the steering wheel.......

When the Road Authorities / Police etc come out with dumb statements like XXX people would still be alive if all vehicles were fitted with electronic stability control - makes me roll my eyes / mumble curses, as all that is is a band-aid fix for a driver that was going too fast for the conditions / did'nt know the handling charactoristics of the vehicle etc etc etc.......:x :x

All Hilux's like most other utes will be made in Thailand.

Thailand is their biggest market and if the ute is made in Thailand they get big tax breaks.

I believe the new VW ute will also be made there.

What makes you think Toyota will not change anything major in the Hilux for another 4 years?

The latest shipment of Tritons now come with the super select 4wd system from the Pajero, making the Triton the first 1tonne 4x4 ute with the ability to drive in 2wd, constant 4wd or locked constant 4wd!

Do you think Toyota will let Mitsubishi be the only one to offer this feature when they can drop the Prado running gear into the Hilux?

They'll never drop the Prado running gear into the hilux....defeats the purpose. if you asked all the owners of hilux's if they prefer a 2 wheel drive for daily duties or a constant four wheel drive, you'll get 99% response as 2 wheels drive.

Toyota wont worry about triton either.....look at the sales figures.

nothing in the car game ever gets change unless there is some strong competition. if your on a good thing (sales wise) stick to it.

yeah the hilux could get some iumprovements, but as long as they are the number one selling ute, they wont be rushing ahead with any of them.

was talking to my uncle who is a service manager for a Toyota dealership, and he was saying that Toyota are trying to get all they're cars to look the same. He was saying that the RAV4, KLUGER and 200 series all look the same, and that the COROLLA, YARIS and CAMRY all the look the same as each other. I reckon that the HILUX is going the same way. It looks like the 200 series and KLUGER at the front (a little bit)
