Wheel Carrier on an ARB Rear Step

Postby Dave on Fri, 25 May 2007 10:51 +0000

Hi guys

Just letting you all know that I have just finished a wheel carrier on the back of my Lux so I can not only have the free space for where my spare went but to also mount my codan HF antenna and a decent work lamp.

It is very strong, no chance of it having any issues, best of all, I can now retain my existing tail lights, the part I am spewing about is the hole I drilled and mounted my camera now is useless, unless I want to keep an eye on my spare wheel I guess! but I'll re-locate that somewhere else.

Here's the pics.

Many thanks to K&N 4WD for the excellent work, always top notch with their wheel carriers. (They are the manufacturer/supplier for those Strongarm Wheel Carriers you may see advertised all over the place.

UFC, I am not sure, haven't seen the bill yet :) it's something that needs to be custom done by them over in Perth, they probably couldn't knock it up as a kit due to it being a once off thing. You should give them a ring to see how much it'll cost you to get one done..

The K&N guys are always keen to do these units for special prices for newhilux.net members too, let alone other gear they sell at their shop, just mention your from newhilux.net and they'll look after you real well.

That looks excellent dave, even color coded it, just wondering when its closed is the weight also on the checkerplate or only on the pivot point, it would be good if they did make them up as a kit coz perth is a bit far to drive from canberra.

Where's the number plate Dave? Are the lights going to meet ADR Reg's due to the restricted vision for the stop lights etc, same for the number plate.

the weight is shared between the bar where the checkerplate is via a U shaped rubber bit when clamped and they might be able to do a kit form but doubt it... give em a call and see what they can do?

Doug67, The number plate is mounted further across to the left from where it's normally mounted which is visable, also the tail light is not restricted what so ever, due to the wheel being offset to almost the center of the tailgate. I will get it checked out by an inspection place just to make sure it's all 100% legal though. Thanks for bringing that up :)

It's been something I have been consdering, if I where to drive around without my jerry holders I'm very limited to where I can mount mine with a light.
