Is this injectors?

Postby tcurve on Fri, 09 Mar 2012 9:29 +0000

Well I brought a hilux 3.0 dvd turbo disel last november from a dealership, had to tow a trailer the other day and it was gutless so while getting a tow plug wired asked my local mechanics whys is gutless and they think it will be the injectors as it will only get to about 98klph towing a tandem with 800kg on it.
I have only done 1100klm in it since buying it second hand so I contacted the dealership I brought it from and they couldnt care less, contacted the warranty people its with and they say unfortinetly your not covered for injectors so what can I do about this it could cost me 3-4000 to get them tested and replaced.
I am not happy about paying this money as I have only done 1100klm which is hardly any.

dont ask your local mechanics unless they have experience in D4D's else you'll be paying for their trial and error and education on your vehicle.

Take it to a dealership and ask them to do an injector flow test for you.

Once that has been done they will be able to tell you whether the injectors need replacing or not.

Couple questions: what year is it? how many kays has she done? the dealers have a sliding scale they input these factors into and that will tell them whether you will be covered fully by warranty, half payment for the job or full cost to you.

that should be your first port of call I think. Whilst there, try and get the service history of the vehicle.

At the end of the day an injector is a wearing item with internally moving parts. They all wear out eventually. Do be doing injectors at quarter of a million to me is to be expected.

You will need to have it connected to a diagnostic unit and a lot of things checked . Does the engine rattle at all . Either normal driving or under load.

Are there any codes it the dtc history. The egr and inlet could be clagged up.
Vac lines on or around he inter cooler for maf sensor could be disconnected.
Turbo vane operation needs to be checked , air flow sensor may need cleaning
All injector feedbacks need to be checked , the fuel system needs to inspected. Also have seen where mice or rats have chewed wiring causing issues.

I saw a vehicle yesterday that would not accelerate and was sluggish. Not engine light on.

Left overnight and wold of start. No fuel pressure at all. Investigation found the fuel tank pick up sock was completely coated in slime and crap from bad fuel. Completely cleaned out an filter changed , try to start and low fuel pressure , target pressure not reached . High pressure supply pump was not serviceable .

So as you can see too many variables .

Jeez there are heaps of variables, I will start with the basic things fuel filter, air filter etc and then go from there, I spoke to a couple more people today they think it could be injectors also so they are coming to have a lok tuesday morning and start it from very cold. They said they can 95 percent tell with the sound of the engine

Has anyone with injector issues noticed if their fuel economy on their SR5 dash info gauge go's up?
