Lifting older hilux

This might be a bit off topic, but its still hilux related, just 15 years back.

Ive got a 94 model single cab hilux with the trusty 2.8l diesel.

Looking to lift it 3-4", its all solid front axle, leaf spring etc.

I dont want any thing fancy, as its mostly used for shooting and offroad work.

How much should it cost me if I get an engineer to do something up for me? Just reset the leaves
or something? The shocks in it are almost new, Ironman foam cells, so they dont need replacing yet.

Just after an idea, before I go waste any ones time, as most the car money is tied
up towards the TRD project.

your better off keeping the suspension at 2" and do a 2" bodylift. 3 to 4" suspension you strat running into potential vibrations issues, need wedges to correct tailshaft angles, tailshaft extension and brake line mods.

if its just a shooting offroad rig, that would be the way I would go.

Ah..... the old 2.8 litre engine designated 3L.

She was underpowered and without a turbocharger.

Prior to the 3L, Toyota had the asthmatic 2.4 litre 2L followed by the 2L-2T.

But she was a honest worker and many added a turbocharger to the 3L to get more power out of her but you had to be careful with the boost though. Maximum boost was from a mild 8 pounds to 10pounds maximum.

Safari even had a turbocharger and intercooler kit for the 3L but boy, was it expensive....


I would agree that a mild lift of 2" would be fine as you can then keep your existing Ironman shocks if you are not going for maximum articulation. Going 4" would require extended length shocks.

Yer, I was thinking that might be the go as well. Il go see the engineers tommorow. What price can I expect for 2" body/2"suspension?

The 2.8 has plenty of power for what I need, I was thinking of adding a turbo if one came up at a good price. If anyone see's one let me know!

why u seeing an engineer ???
Is it different in WA for suspension upgrade on 4 x 4??
Why not just a suspension shop/spring maker for reset or diy by sending away reset and refit ??

I did my old 88 hilux with 308 v8 and 4"/5" inch ultimate lift myself with no RTA issues (roads and traffic authority)

hi fellows , i have an 84 four runner with 2inch spirng pack s and extened shackels , and 2inch body lift . brake lines are 200mm longer then standards, with tailsharf mods . . now i all so have an 96 duel cab with a 3 inch comfort pack spring , and 2 inch body lift , with no tail sharft mods , you must up grade ur brake line to braided lines to help with braking its only smarts , i run 34inch tyres on them

pumbaa69 i would love some pic too, I just got a 85 4runner and wanna give it a 2" body lift. If correct i would only need 6 "rubber" blocks correct?
What is the material of the "rubber" blocks? I'm thinking of doing a custom job.

mmaaxx would or should i get it engineered OK? or due to its age i should be ok?

how did you get on mate with ur mod,s , i run 2inch spring lift plus 2inch body lift and 2,5 inch extened shackels plus 33 inch tyres in a old 4 runner

You need to ask your self why do I want to lift it.
If it just to fit some bigger tyres under in bodylift it or put blocks onto of diff
If it's for offroaden then fir a 2" lift
I had 6" lift (3" + 2t springs with extended shackles) 2" body 35" bfg a/t and for a while 2" alloy block on diff
And I went everywere in 2wd that std 4be's needed 4wd

Also with the alloy blocks on diff if you no someone with a mill you can angle the diff as I did, I took 2mm off one side and zero on other, top and bottom giving me 4mm of angle. I never measured angle but it stop flogging out my cv

If you go more 3" on springs it gets tricky as you need to modify steering arm so stay under that and if more the 2" body you need a extension steering shaft

If I was you start with 2" body and 2" blocks ($150 max if you fit yourself) and 33" or 35"
