Sam,

For a young bloke i must admit that im Damn impressed by not only your Car Audio work but your maturity at your age so congrats, its good too see a young bloke doing mechanical stuff early on rather than looking for where his next drink and or cone is coming from, while running around with a backpack full of spray cans !

So well done and keep the pics coming.

Cheers

Are you using DP-31?

I noticed you are at setting 7 which is the setting that I use too.

9W6VX i run mine on 7 now simply so that when i tow i can bump it up so that it feels closer to normal. i was running it at 5 when i first put it in then took it to 9. now that i have the pipe in i get more out of 7 with a pipe than i did with just the chip set to 9. an yeas its a 31

Dute mate i have to say i do see a difference in the performance. however i don't think its worth $1500 id much rather spend that kind of money on some different mods. however i got the chip and exhaust for $950. to me it seemed worth it. i have been told that its more noticeable on autos but mine is a MANual but you can still tell its there. i have heard of some systems that monsterlux has been developing and they seem to give you more power that the dp but i dont know how much strain it would put on your engine or clutch. if you are going to be buying a chip look at tuneit chips they are the same as dp but cheaper.

Sam, Just checking out your profile and noticed the hat sitting in the back beside your sub. Your secret's out mate and the pic of the stripped blazer on your website confirmed it. You must be a good fella 'cos I wore the same hat from 1969-1976. So now I know you are another TSS old boy.....

And mods, can we get this thread moved to member buildups? There is great stuff in this thread.

Righto.. seems that i really need to do some updating of my buildup... i have sort of been off the air for about 2 years... still got the lux and love it more than ever... but i want to put in a serious lift kit... i quite like bulls setup...

Im looking for 6" of lift or so... so i can get some serious rubber under the truck... any recommendations as to what i need to buy... and use English with me suspension is the part of the car i don't entirely understand...

i also want to be able to tow a 2T trailer is that has any bearing on it..

If you want to go 6" lift and still want to keep decent travel, than you will need to go a 4" suspension lift, either monster rides or ultimates suspension, than a 2" body lift.
I believe that would be the way you would have to go, yet I am sure someone on here with bit more idea will correctly me or elaborate more on what I've said....

You won't need anything like 6" of lift to run the biggest tyre you're allowed in Qld. Having enough room to run "play tyres" though is an entirely different matter.
Lots of members here running 33's with fairly mild lifts.

Even if you wanted a 10" lift if it was theoretically possible will still not allow you to run much more than a 33/34" tyre if you still want all your suspension travel.

The front bodymount is and always will be the limitation on these vehicles. Even if trimmed.

If you want to through the rule book right out the window then Id suggest a 6" Rough Country or ProComp Lift for the Tacoma where they cut your front crossmember and replace it to gain 6" of lift.

Even with that they "barely" fit 35" tyre with a mount trim.

Dont forget the increased centre of gravity etc etc etc.

End of the day its upto you. I'd rcommend a Monster Rides Kit at 4" and a 2" bodylift but hey thats my biased opinion.

Heres a pic of a Monster Rides customer with a bodylift running 35" Toyo Tyres......

fair enough.... im not too worried about the rules as i register my car in qld but drive it in NSW... so im likely to get picked up for something...

Perhaps a 6in lift and forget the body lift... or a 4 in lift and 2 in body lift (would that keep the center of gravity lower?)

and max nice ute.... i have seen it a few times up in townsville it lives around the corner from my girlfriends uni...

No difference in the COG because at the end of the day your still at the same height... BUT the 4" suspension and 2" body would be far more stable offroad because you will have more down travel and wont be lifting tires as easy.

I dont mean to offend anyone when i say this but a 6" suspension lift on a ifs truck were you get no down travel, is for them boys that want to look cool in the maccas carparks (mall crawlers)

Sam have a chat with Matty from Monster Rides, he will point you in the right direction
