Hi.

Has anyone tried the new Bilsteins yet. From what i hear Bilstein now have a proper shocks for the Hiluxes not just a Prado one that fits but doesn't work very well.

New Part # is BE5 D563 fronts

BE5 D564 Rear.

Regards

I think they first fitted A480H1 in the front of mine and 1267's in the rear. The front was really soft and would almost hit the stops under hard braking or dropping off a cutter was enough to make the front really dip . Just no controll at all. Even driving along at 60 KPH the front rolled up and down. The rear was as hard as goats knee's. They revalved them and the ute handled like a race car but was undriveable over any sort of bush track even at low speed just to firm. I gave up and pulled them out.

Doug.

I have seen other Hiluxes with A712 MOD's in the front and B5654's or 6935 in the rear.

A bit off topic.
But I have got to replace my suspension on my three day old SR its like a boat.
I was thinking of going the OME 2" kit but fitting Bilsteins shocks not the OME shocks.
What do you guys think ?
I like how the Bilsteins have the bigger valve area inside the shock.

thx

It all seems more of a spring problem not the shocks with the description you have made , the shocks are there to control the rebound of the springs.

Doug.

I used the Standard Toyota coils and leaf springs just changed the shocks. The Bilsteins i had fitted couldn't control Bump or rebound. I fitted the Toyota shocks back on and it drove well again

To be honest, I find the front suspension quite well tuned except that at speeds of 110km/h and above, they are a bit soft and wallow. The other thing I don't like about the front end is that she sits too low. A 1"/25mm lift at the front would even the front out to sit level with the rear suspension.

Regards

The rear is a little rough when empty but when loaded she's fine.

Cheers

Hi Crhis, I fitted 2" lift kit with Bilsteins shocks and heavy duty Ridepro springs. I've just come back from a Simpson Desert trip and they have absorbed corrugations and dug up sand dunes beautifully. I got mine fitted at ATS who also provide you with some very solid schock guards free of charge which did their job on rocky outback roads.

9w6vx The front is well tuned ,handles well over the bumps ,soaks up rough tracks at low speed but like you say just too low.

Dusty tell me more about your ATS bilstein kit. Do you have any pictures and Part#'s for your Bilsteins

Chris, I don't know how the photos will come out since I had to reduce them to 125k in size, however if you would like full size where you can see things properly, let me know and I can send them to you via email.

With Bilsteins, you need to be careful what you put in as kits listed for Hilux 2005 on Bilsteins site are Prado front and Patrol rear which don't work very well.

Don't pay attention to the wheels as they are only for road use, I have 31" MTR's for play.

I don't have any part numbers but you can call ATS and get the price of them directly. Their number is 03 5221 6599.

This is the stone protector that ATS provide with their gear.

Cheers,
Sasha

dusty,

If you don't mind, could you check your bill from ATS or better still get dirty and get under the Hilux and check out the part numbers for us.

While you are at it, clean the Bilsteins!

I'm curious to know what part numbers you are running mate.

Thanks

Brendon

Brendon, there are no part numbers listed on my invoice and as I understand it, numbers displayed on the shocks are only body part numbers not the actual part numbers.

Having said that, here are the numbers I got of the shocks:

Front: F4-BE5-D563-MO
Rear: F4-BE5-D564-MO

Hope this helps.

Chris, matching them up is the key in getting the nice ride and most important at that. Another thing to consider is getting the right springs to match the shocks. ATS have done some R&D with couple of brands and concluded that Ridepro & Bilstein provided best results.

No problem Chris, there are some nice spots down west so we can even organize a trip together if you like. I don't know if you ever been to Mt Cole but it is a very nice spot with variaty of tracks and some beautiful caping spots (huts). Just let me know and we can arrange something.

dusty011,

That's the new Bilstein part numbers recommended by Bilstein Australia when I contacted them via email.

Thanks for the info. Did you clean the shockies like I told you to do while you were under the Hilux?

8-) 8-)
