Please help !
I have read through all the posts regarding to these strut spacers, but i am still unsure how to remove the struts to fit them.
Could someone please post up a quick step guide to what needs to be removed/moved/adjusted/compressed ?

from the pictures im assuming you need to unbol the brake calipers, sway bars, upper control arm from the hub assembly ???

Does the upper control arm need to be level to be removed from the hub assembly ? Or is it normally really tight ?

Does the spring need to be comressed for the strut to be removed ?

Or does the front strut just need disconnecting at the top and bottom to be removed ?

Does the spring need to be compressed to be put back in ?

Thanks in advance, getting very frustrated with this as I can't figure it out and am afraid of breaking something.

getting spaces and extended shackles are just a cheaper way of getting a lift over buying new coils and leafs....
Is that corretc??

Yes, but the Extended shackles are illegal in all states and if you don't do something about bump stops, the added pressure from the front spacers will destroy your shock as it will bottom out instead of the bump stop. There was a rather nasty photo of this posted a while ago. Might have been Macca or Skog.

so in other words than, dont go the cheap option and just fork out bit more money ans get a suspension kit??

Well it depends how deep your pockets are and how reliable a build you want to do mate. It is always preferable to get the spring and strut/shock length right as any sort of spacer usualy reduces travel. If you want height and just drive round town, the spacers might suit you..

well i have pretty light pockets lol!

i would be doing mostly road driving yet a weekend here and there would be 4wd. saying this i would perfer a set up that gives me best drive for on road yet is good and sutible for off road when i do it!!

off the topis of suspensions.... ho much was your snorkel?? as i am looking into one at the moment....

yes thats what i got qutoed on yesterday- $600.....

That's about the going rate. The snorkel it self is not hard to fit if you buy the required hole saw and a step drill. I did one, and rolled my car 2 weeks later, so this time, I got somebody else to fit it in case that is what killed my last car (and nearly killed me). You'll save about $200 or so if you fit it yourself.

yes i would be definately getting someone to install because then if it stuffs up i got someone to fall back on...

the ironman snorkel looks exactly the same as the ARB....

dont know about different "bra's" since I dont wear them these days anymore

if it looks the same as ARB and that makes you happy then go get it.....your money at the end of the day.

but i was just curious if there any difference between the ironman and the ARB? or is a snorkel just a snorkel no matter the brand....

im not convinced that a suspension kit is a great thing still. does any one actually have flex pics. im not interested in custom A arms just the run of the mill TD or EFS stuff. the front design is so limited i cant see that big a difference in flex between say a spacer and stock compared to a efs front. same goes for rear its a leaf rear that unless you go to extremes and do away with load carrying capacity it wont flex much more than stock. i understand the difference in shock lengths coils etc but the limiting factor is the top and bottom arms. what im ranting about is yes the susp upgrade is a good reliable way of adding lift but for the money does it add any more flex compared to spacers/bump stop adjustment and extended shackles with shocks. some one needs to give me some proof with flex shots

Hows this.....2,5" rear lift and 2.5" front, just after I got it.....





aftermarket longer struts add suspension travel, more so than the smaller length standard struts.....

Ive measured the front travel on mine and it was just over 9" of travel until the tyre hit the top of the front guard and so I fitted a bump stop spacer to eliminate this. you wont get that in many kits or even close to that with a standard strut.

theres is alot of potential if you remove the load carrying ability of the hilux.....something I will tap into at a later stage.

I've reviewed the threads regarding the strut spacers but find that the information could do with an update. So my question is........ 6, 12, 18 months after fitting the strut spacers what are peoples thoughts?

How have the CV's stood up? Did anyone really regret this option?? Has this been a reasonable option for the cost?

After having fitted a 2" Tough Dog lift kit my rear still sits up to 25mm higher than the front end. My question is will a strut spacer in the front level out my car better? Has anyone out there done this or is there another way to accomplish my request?

yeah but i reackon you will be pushing the friendship with your cvs in the front if your running 50mm already. 25mm isnt too bad but its more likely the front will keep colapsing before the rear will specially if your not carrying big loads all the time. its the toyota way any way nose down ass up

melazz, i fitted spacers in the front cos i couldnt afford susp at the time. think its a great option as like every 4by the front ends are useless for flex. however i would like to upgrade coils soon cos of extra weight being added like rock sliders, possibly front bar but then if i do that i need to upgrade shocks to match. just need to get the rear to work off the dail.
