Cooper ST 31" vs. SR Dual Cab (No Lift)

Postby HiruxHijinx on Tue, 07 Aug 2007 9:29 +0000

Hi Everyone,
Had a bit of a search through the threads, but was all a little unclear, has anyone put on Cooper ST 31" to a Luxy with no lift, I found a few threads stating that STTs didn't seem to fit, but as for ST there was not much.

Let me know experiences.

Cheers,

Sam.

Cooper ST 31" vs. SR Dual Cab (No Lift)

I went through this twelve months ago, tried to fit 235/85x16 on standard SR steel rim, they hit on full lock at the front inside so I had 215/85x16 cheese cutters ST's put on instead without any lift. I've just put them back on lst night to get some more mileage out of the and now the car looks a bit strange with lift, flares and big mud flaps. 774mm Dia.

Can't answer the question directly. I have Cooper ST 31x10.5s on my SR5 with ARB '2 inch' lift.

With what you are suggesting, I suspect that at full articulation while off road, and possibly (but not sure) at full lock, you might get some contact with the inside of the guard.

The only reason I add bigger tyres is to get the diff a bit further off the ground for off road. If this is your reason, you should consider a lift to get chassis up.

I don't think you'll find many (any?) who have put on the bigger tyres without a lift. The two go hand in hand.

Same here, 31x10.5 R15 BF Goodrich A/T's and never had any issue with rubbing on the standard suspension.

Thanks everyone!
Norm C: saw your car in 4wdmonthly, very nice, I am looking to get a 2" lift, but want to put the expediture off a little, it's just that I spiked a tyre on the weekend, and didn't really want to waste money buying one new H/T when I could buy the ones I want now..

Thanks,

Thanks Sam, They took some great pics. I've put a few of them in with my profile pics. The 'Lux rarely looks that clean and shiny though.

The guy at ARB Northside said I would have to add torsion bars to avoid contact at full lock;is this B/S or what? I am no mechanic and they know it. Any thoughts?

As long as you do not have a bullbar or anything causing the front to sag, 31's should be ok.

No bullbars and the tyres are making contact with the mudguards. In fact had the castors moved forward to reduce the friction points btw tyres and guard.

Likewise. I'm running Good Year Wrangler AT/R 31x10.5x15 with stock standard suspension and have NO rub issues at full lock.
