SR5 Alloy Rim's on an SR

Need something to get you rolling?

Postby StoneySR05 on Thu, 03 Jan 2008 7:28 +0000

G'Day All,

I was talking to the man at the local tyre shop and he has a set of standard SR5 mags and I spoke to him about fitting them to my SR.

He believes there is a problem fitting the SR5 mag centre cap on the front hub of the SR.

I have seen a few SR's with the SR5 mags both on the street and on this website, can anybody who has done this let me know if they have had any problems fitting the front rim?

Thanks,
Carl

i've also seen a lot of SR's with SR5 wheels, maybe he's thinking of the previous models where the lower spec trucks had free wheeling hubs :-)

I have the SR5 rims on my SR no problems with fitting them at all. The only problem i have found is that they are 15 inch rims so this limits your choice of tyre.

Pids,

Thanks for the info I don't see how there would be any difference between the SR and SR5 front hub. I understand what you are saying about the limited tyre selection but I am thinking that a 31" tyre is the size I would like to get.

I also whacked on a set of sr5 wheels and tyres, by whacked, i mean carefully fitted with no problems.. 8-)
All the centre caps fit fine with no problem.

Cheers,
Sam.

Sorry to Drag this up again but If I fit 31's do I really need to get flares?

I saw an SR with 31's the other day but I could not catch up to him for a really good look.

Thanks,
Carl

I like the way the Lux's look with no flares and the bigger tyres like you have Wade, sound like everything will be OK.

Thanks Guys,

I was talking to a guy who ran an american wheel shop at the Brisbane motor show and he reckons they don't fit on an SR but obviously they do. Go figure

has anybody actually gone to the trouble of asking the're toyota dealer tech man this question ?
i would be very surprised if there is a difference in the front /hub caliper area other than abs brake sensors.
i think toyota being as successfull as they are in this market that we would have a model issue with wheels .
easy way go to the spare parts dept. and compare front rotor/caliper part no.s
just my thoughts

I have Sr5 alloys on my Sr and have no problem with rubbing or calipers touching the alloy. You can option up a sr to fit alloys from the Sr5 from Toyota if you want to pay $400 per alloy!! Toyota wouldnt have separate caliper systems between the Sr and Sr5. You can also option up an Sr with Abs as well. I think the confusion comes from the previous model with different offsets, fitting wider rubber and larger diametre tyres. I fitted flexiflares to protect the paintwork and avoid defect issues.
