Tailgate drop

Tailgate drop

Postby Paulba on Sat, 17 Jul 2010 7:16 +0000

This was a quick mod I made to fix a problem with the tailgate hitting the trailer hitch when open.

This is on a 2WD so it probably wont interest many but I'm sure there are others with 2WDs that it may help.

By just adding a couple of nuts and washers the drop distance of the tailgate can be changed without causing too much trouble with access (well the dogs don't care about the change). The pics show it all. (pic updated)

Would it not have been easier to turn the tounge the other way around?

That's an option (that I have tried) when towing some things but my trailer has hilux wheels so it sits too low at the front and the dog trailer needs to sit as flat as possible to keep the dogs as comfortable as possible. The thread on the ball also hits the ground on a lot of driveways.

On a 2WD you need the tongue that way to get the ball height right.
