from above thread:
I have bias TSL as well.. I run 10psi in the front and 8psi in the rear on a std. cab V-6 Taco. I could safely run about 6 psi but they work pretty well where they are.

I know the Vitara’s tip the scales 700kg less than our truck at 1300kg, but after reading this several times, I dropped my swampers to 6 psi rear, 8 psi front with no problems. At these pressures, wheel spin was almost impossible and truck destroying when it happened once on steep flat rock, bounced like crazy, so backed off the pedal, don’t need too many revs when you have soo much traction. I wish there were people as knowledgeable about our truck as Gwagensteve is on Vitara’s. He says in the thread:
With beadlocks, we have seen suzuki's go as low as 2 psi and the tyres are still effective. In this case we are talking a 36" swamper (although about 4 psi in the rear and 5-6 in the front seems pretty effective), but the point is there that in most cases, the most effective pressure in the tyre is way below what you would think.

Roc box is running 4 psi…. I think we would therefore easily get away with 8-10 psi in Swampers without beadlocks. Interesting advice, go down till you pop one than go up 1 psi!

Burgo, at the risk of getting shot down, it all comes down to personal preference. You should think about the load you are carrying and the terrain you are traversing. This is what I use.Sand loaded 20psiSand Empty 16 psiRocks 20- 22psigeneral slow 4wding on dirt 24 - 26psiHIgh speed 4wding on dirt roads anything from 30 psi up pending on the road surface. Hill climbing generaly 20 - 22 psi.On road 40psi, and I always have a load on..I hope this helps. BTW, I have an onboard compressor and a 15L tank at 150psi, so changing pressure is painless. tire pressures

I tend to leave mine at road pressure (38psi front - 36 rear) till I look like getting stuck and that's only in sand towards the end of the dry season when it gets like powder then it's down to 16.

tire pressures

if i'm driving on dirt roads for any decent distance i'll let the pressures down to about 26psi just for the comfort factor, maybe i'm just getting soft haha....

Burgo, after watching quite a few of those vids on youtube of Ormeau I see where you're coming from.

Depends what tyres you run but in general much the same as TOMUCH.

18psi in sand.
24-26psi in slow rocky terrain.
28-32psi medium to fast rough dirt.
30-34psi fast good dirt.
32-36psi fast bitumen.

Was just wondering about the chunks thingy - would it matter what pressure your tyres are, if they're going to shred pretty good bet they'll do it at any pressure. :?

I usually rrun 16-18 on rocky terrain, rocky as in heaps of sharp jagged edges where you really want the tyre to deform to not only grip well but also to avoid puntures.

Muddy sloppy conditions, I go between 22-24

anything else I leave at road pressure.....makes for some great sideways action through long sweeping gravel corners.....
YEE HAA!

burgo, Yes, having high pressures in rocky or harsh 4WD terrain, It is very easiy to tear a lump of rubber off your tyre. The reson is due to slippage, with the tyre pressures high, the wheel tends to slip more, then grab. this sudden (and significant) gain in traction with a hard tyre with external "lumpy " bits tend to tear chunks off the tyre, On the other end of the sacle, a tyre wit reduced pressure, has much more traction, therefore less slippage, resulting in fewer chuncked tyres. Dont get me wrong, you can certainly chunk a tyre even when its flat. I hope this answered your Question Burgo182.
