I don't actually.
You can see the suction port and where it bolts up if that helps.

What are you looking for/doing?

Just having a pissing match with a mate of mine about servicing the A750F and A750E. I believe that if you’re going to all the trouble of changing the oil you should take the pan off and clean the strainer.

His argument is the strainer is very open and is only there to catch large contaminant.

Last did mine at 60,000klms and I don’t have a photo to show him.

Have to say I was surprised to see the oil and strainer at 60,000klms was in very good condition.

Both the filters I had, the one fitted from stock and the one in the service kit I got were not very open at all, don't know what they're rated at in microns but they looked very similar to a factory air filter element

It's on the passenger side of engine bay, if you find the engine oil stick it's behind that, it has a orange cap on transmission dip stick...

If you have a 5 speed auto on the 4.0 V6, it is designated the A750F and there is no dipstick on it for you to check.

Diesel auto get the 4 speed A340F which has a dipstick.

A750F uses Toyota WS standard ATF
A340F uses Toyota Type IV ATF

Make sure your 5 speed uses the WS standard and not the Type IV.

The WS stands for World Standard.

so I serviced me 4 speed auto tranny in the D4D tonight.

Service book says 2 litres of tranny oil to dump and refill.

I dropped the pan and changed the valve body oil strainer aswell.

So theres a little bit more oil that came out.

Once done, and refilled, I put in about 2.5litres and ran the vehicle and cycled it through the gears manually several times before going for a drive around the block

Could instantly feel the smoother shifts through the gears.

When I got back home, vehicle still running, checked the dipstick again and theres barely a drop on the bottom of it....put another litre of fluid in (3.5 in toal now) and and even warm its only half way up the dipstick when running.

Surely you'd think toyota would quote in the service manual how much oil is needed for a full dump and replacement with strainer?

What is everyone elsees experience who has done this themselves? how much oil did you end up using?

I'd take their figure as a guide only, when I had my pan off/valvebody out, the amount of fluid lost depended on the amount of time taken to seal it back up.
If you're getting it to temp and running it through the gears, then I don't see a problem.

absolute guide only...2l figure probly the amount of oil a computer determines from the digital models...just follow the work it thru gears and get it warm method...if dipstick says its right after that then its right

Like the guys said, it's only a guide. Everything like the outside temperature, oil temperature and previous oil level will change the amount you need to put in. The dry fill capacity is around 10L so you are well short of that

Hi Guys,

I have just been down to Covs and was given Fucs Tital ATF4400 5L of transmission fluid. THis is the oil they said their computer recommends for the 5spd auto from the V6 engine.

on the back it says its for Toyota type T, T-II, T-III, and T-IV.

Is this the wrong sort of fluid / oil? Unsure why 9W6VX says to use the "WS" type (i haven't asked them about it, only saw this thread when I came home)

Also, how big a job is this for my local mechanic? ... he seemed to think he'd have to call Toyota to get a low down on it?

he's a great mech but don't want him fumbling on the job...

I took mine to a transmition specialist in wangarra and he recommended the w/s oil. I'm not really sure what the oil you have is like but if you are going to be getting it done for you I would take it to someone that knows what they are doing and doesn't need to call for help. Wangarra auto transmitions mate from memory it was under $200 filter oil piece of mind and only took half hour.

Yeh the five speed mate same same.
I don't think there is any special machine involved just a matter of know how. I'm sure your mechanic could work it out but to be safe I would go else where

U can use multitrans synthetic oil, covers pretty much all modern vehicles. Also undo a cooler hose and blow either compressed air or new fluid through to get as much old shit out as u can. The torque converter alone can hold over 3 litres and this is hard to get out. For the best trans service get it done on a flushing machine, once filter been changed. This will ensure every drop of old oil has been replaced with new.
