Humex exhaust fittment probs

Postby shane308 on Tue, 22 Sep 2009 7:04 +0000

Just wondering if anybody else here that fitted there own Humex 3" system has had trouble with the fitment of it, i fitted mine up last night and the tail pipe mount and both the rear muffler mounts were in the wrong spot so when it was all fitted up the system was up hard against the floor, so had to cut the mounts off and re weld them to let the whole system down, also the bolts supplied in the kit were so short that they didn't even come out past the end of the nut so i will be replacing them on the weekend with ones long enough to put two nuts on the end of the bolt to lock them on, other then that it doesn't sound to bad and seems to have livend the the truck up a little bit anyway.

I had some minor problems fitting mine aswell......no, you cannot have the centre section in the wrong way because of where the mounts are located.

I had to bend some of my mounts a little to make them fit better, I had to bend a threaded stud that pointed downwards above the exhaust that held the heatshield on the standard exhaust out of the way also....didnt have a problem with the bolts thou they could have had a bigger head on them.........

maybe yours was put together on a friday arfternoon.....mine must have been on a friday morning

There a good unit... but the Lux has severl minor changes under neath over the various models so few items may need adjustment on fittting... A local exhaust shop would probably fit it for $60 or so if you really wanted..

My system fitted up fine no dramas at all, all mounts and clearances are fine.
Would be good to see pics as it just doesn't sound right.

well just going buy how good everybody elses went on i'd say max might be right about me getting the friday arvo system, while i'm here i may as well tell yous that i swapped the bolts over with longer ones like i previuosly mentioned and while i was under there i noticed that the flanges wouldn't pull tight together at the bottom no matter how tight the bolt were done up and as such there is a slight leak in the front two joins so i've got it booked in to an exhaust joint next week to have it sorted, either way i'm not to worried at this stage because even if he charges me $200 or $300 to fix it it still will have worked out cheaper than most other quotes that i got for similar systems, while it there i've asked him to have a look at maybe putting a flex joint in somthing like the factory one coz i think if i don't put one in i would be worried about coming down on a rock or log or somthing and landing on the exhaust and damaging the turbo every time i went wheeling, or maybe i'm just worrying to much....

the first section after the dump pipe can be installed back to front which will result in the rest of the system not fitting

My last ute had a 3" system very similar without a flex joint, never farted or carried on... I think MMaaxx's will ocassionaly fart when flexing... as for the rock... I'd suggest the exhaust itself would simply bend or dent more than wreck the turbo... but if its cheap enough then go for it... My last ute got a hard time and never had an issue though Murpheys Law doesn't stirke everyone...

I've heard a nasty buzz that Humex is looking like shutting up shop soon. Anyone else heard that?

Noodle, Humex (Sterling) aren't shutting up shop, what they are doing is shifting from Albury to Singleton in about 6months time.I know this as I have spoken with them about being the area agent for them when they move and at this stage it looks good.

Thats good news. Hate seeing a local company closing it's doors, especially when they make a quality product.... usually :)

OK, so it looks like bansheebuzz was right and i'm a dickhead haha, i did put the centre section in back to front  , i just went out into the back yard and swapped it around and it fits just like a bought one now...., i will allow everybody one shot at me each and then i don't want to here another word about it OK... , at least i saved myself the embaresment of taking it to the exhaust bloke for him to see, although i will still try and get it over there to see what he thinks about the flex joint,
oh yeah thanks banshee

hahaha nice mate we all do these things every now and again lol i had a similar incident with my front shocks lol dont thnk id worry about the flex joint just restrickts the system and as the others have said the exhaust itself and rubber mounts will absorb it

Can anyone tell me how long the Humex dump pipe is? I already have a 3" system from the OEM dump pipe back, and i'm looking at getting the dump pipe shortly. Just curious to know how much of a pain it's going to be fitting the new dump pipe.

Any chance of someone in ACT being able to show their system off before I buy the dump pipe?

My reason is, if there is a major difference in the lengths and routing, then I might have to look at a complete Humex system if I can't match it up to my system. Hopefully it isn't too much otherwise I've thrown some money away. :?

noodle, Any good muffler shop should be able to make one to suit your setup or modify one end to suit the new dump pipe... But they are a pain to fit as I think everyone has had issues getting the OEM one unbolted... Bit it can be done...
