Mounting Light on Rear of Vehicle

Where have people mounted lights on the rear of the vehicle

I have mounted them on the rear step towbar.
Seen people mount them on the rollbars.
Anyone tried to mount them on the chrome toyota bumper bar

Mounting Light on Rear of Vehicle

i got mine mounted at the rear of the roofrack that sits above my tub, am yet to wire it up, hanging for some spare time to do it.

wouldnt recommend mounting it on the chrome rear step.

if you have a towbar, make up an L shaped bracket that mounts ontop of the towbar behind the number plate panel area (if you know what I mean) and then mount your little lights on to these.

It'll be discreet, neat and nothing will hit it.

just my 2 cents worth.

Good idea mmaaxx... And I'd agree, the rear chrome bumper is weak as Fosters Light...

Mounting Light on Rear of Vehicle

I have 2 on the steel part in front of the roll bar. Took those rotating pieces off and under them were 2 holes. Drilled them out and mounted the lights upside down facing back. There are pictures on my profile. Not good ones though.
They are powerful lights and they dont actually do what I want them to. They need to be low facing down so I can see in the rear view. These ones are just good for burning the retinas of people tailgating me. Not that I do that of course. That would be illegal...

thanks guys for your responses.

why woundnt you mount it to the rear chrome toyota bar. The lights are very light in weight, what could happen.

redbeard
can you angle the lights down to get the light where you want it to go.
Was also thinking about mounting them there, so you dont recommend it mounted on the bottom of the roll bar

yer its fine mate, helps that i have a flat tray as well i guess, but it is fully adjustable up, down, left + right. So its not hard to set it up just right, i just turn it on and then have a play with it until its perfect.

Mounting Light on Rear of Vehicle

Same for my rear lights guys. I have 2 mounted on the back of the roofrack hooked up to the 2nd battery in the tray, so I can setup the tent etc at night and not be concerned about it flattening my main starting battery. It is controlled by a 3 way switch on the dash so I can set it to come on with my reversing lights, or use it as a rear work light, or turn it off altogether. It works great! 8-)

I mounted 2 small lights (2 1/2" round) either side of the number plate. you hardly even notice them, but they are bright as and great for backing the boat and camper trailer.

Have you thought about replacing you standard reversing lights with 50 watt halogen ones.

Phillips make them and we have fitted them to a few vehicles including our own.

They have a bayonet type base and look like the standard ones.

The standard ones are 21 watts.

Mounting Light on Rear of Vehicle

Postby redbeard on Thu, 12 Jun 2008 5:52 +0000

The problem with my set up is that you can not angle the light back enough to light up the ground low enough. 1. the rear window is in the way and 2. the tray is in the way. When I get the time I will be changing to much smaller lights below the rear bar to light up the ground so I can see it while reversing. Thats all I need them for and they arent doing that at present. An ideal solution would be either higher on another roll bar mounted at the back (thinking about it) where you can get a lot of angle. Or lower. Reluctant about lower really because I dont want stuff drowning in water crossings. I would also change to work lights from the spotties I have.

If you want to mount them on the bar.. then just do it!
Of course it's strong enough,
They would just look weird there I think, and would be prone to damage.

That's my 2 cents.

(Mine are hanging from my tub headboard)
