I'd be keen for a dualcab longbed if they made one. if they made the dualcab with a single cab size tub on it I'd get one. There use to be a white mid 90's modle dualcab hilux in canberra with a longer tub on it with a chassis extension to match, it had flares and alloys and looked really trick!!! 8-)

Dutch Engineering in Newcastle will fit a 7' (2.1 metre) aluminium tray to a dual cab. Don't know about other than a Hilux, didn't need to know :P . It's legal, all to do with wheelbase, overhang & percentages of them(can't remember all the figures now).

Be wary.

Rta advise that tray can overhang the vehicle by up to 60% of the wheelbase. However this is designed for larger vehicles (rigid trucks) and they generally recommend that for one tonne vehicle a max of 50% overhang be used.

While it hazily meets RTA regulations you must also meet first manufacturer recommendations and local codes of practice to cover yourself legally.
Toyota Japan have comprehensive Body Builders Guides for all of their vehicle and in this it states a maximum length of 1800mm. Hence why they only sell this tray in their genuine range.

There is also very important considerations in regards to weight distribution. Even though your tray meets RTA guidlines, if loaded with a "water level load" (in practice if the tray was filled with water) and the load rating of the rear axle could be exceeded due to the fulcrum effect then your tray length would be deemed illegal.

Also in the event of an accident investigation an investigator may see that your tray does not meet first manufacturer recommendations or water level load and therefore your vehicle would be deemed illegal in relation to community standards and you would be found liable for the damages.

This has been before a judge and a precedent exists.

Unfortunately most body manufacturers are either unaware of these areas or choose to ignore them out of the desire to make the sale.

We got it in Norway. You could order it directly from the dealer, but don't think you can do that anymore with the new 2009-model..
Nowadays I think you can order a longbed from a company that makes long beds for Hilux, Navara etc...

Good to see more norwegians here!

I had an AT company car, but that is gone now..
Hope to get an D-cab 37" before the winter sets in, but it's all about the money you know..

ps. The long bed was sold as "kombinertbil", (combi) with a special, little cheaper taxrate because of the bigger cargospace.

i reckon that long bed looks a bit strange, it needs a wheelbase stretch to make it look more in proportion, only my opinion though. ;)

I have not seen a Lux with a long tray, but I have seen the results of a custom chop on a 100 series wagon into a long tray ute. Because the tow bar has to sit right back at the end of the tray, I have seen the results of towing a 12' dinghy over some very rough roads to Isralite Bay on the WA south coast. Two years in a row - bent chassis, even after fixing & reinforcing the first time. Just too much fulcrum effect.

I'm looking to convert my standard bed double cab Hilux from 2007 to the long bed.

Is there some new version of double cab with long bed?

Where I need to look in Norway to bay a long bed as a part to switch to my car.
