3/ 09 KUN, 96***km's.
Has always smoked more than I would have liked. Put it off for a bit and did the cheap stuff first like entire intake clean, MAF and boost filter clean. Still just the same. Never had a bad rattle but just like things to be right. My feedback values when I checked were a little off (about +2) on 1 cylinder.
Finally bought some injectors and checked the tappets at the same time. Everything went well, coded up fine.
What my concern is, when I start it cold, it seems to me like it's missing. Not a dead misfire, but doesn't sound right. On the scanner I can see the comp values go to +2 on cylinder 1 and -2 on number 4 and the roughness seems to go. I'm assuming there's a problem with cylinder 1 and the ECU is adapting or trying to even things out by taking fuel from the companion cylinder. More than welcome to be corrected on this.
I drive it fine on the road with no change to the comp values. Next time I come to a complete stop it seems to be running rough again but watching the data a can see the values return to near perfect and it runs smoothly.
Is it normal for the values to only correct themselves at idle? Am I being paranoid? Is it ok for the values to be a bit "larger" when cold? Does anyone have experience in these things running rough only when cold? Mine is a pre pilot injection learn so is it these symptoms that made that feature become available?
I've done a few sets of injectors at work on hilux's, cruisers and tritons with no comebacks but you never analyse other peoples cars day in, day out like you're own. In some ways I'm happy to learn on mine.
