FYI Recal Notice

Postby jcarter on Fri, 26 Oct 2007 6:30 +0000

As mentioned in a previous thread.

I received a Recall notice from Toyota Today.

This is for two things, the Vehicle engine hood Bonnet inner panel crack.

And secondly for Toyota Geniune Bullbar, to have an Additional relay and wiring harness fitted. (this is to do with the indicator lights when a bullbar and a trailer etc)

If you want a Picture of the letter let me know.

Hey Jcarter
I've been down this road with Toyota. If you have a genuine Toyota bar, there is a problem with the wiring of the vehicle and Toyota will repair it. If like most of us you fitted an ARB or other brand bullbar Toyota don't want to know about. So is there a problem with the wiring or not? and the answer is yes. So why isn't Toyota doing a recall on all vehicles?

The problem is the bull bar with extra lighting not the brand of bar

Toyota are fixing the problem their bar caused

ARB need to fix the problem their bar is causing - makes sense to me. ;)

The actual problem IMHO exists with the flasher unit....it can't keep up with the extra draw when ALL the lights are in operation... IE when the emergency flashers are operating.. I believe that Toyota should fix the problem for all cars... even if you have no bull bar, AND you have a trailer with double lights IE four indicators like a tilt tray / car carrier.. the emergency flashers will not work...unless you have LED lights fitted... I had mine fixed at Toyota free of charge (NOT) they supplied the wiring kit for free and charged me $100 to fit it... I asked them to just give me the loom and I would fit it myself... they said they could not do it... and wanted $100 for the loom if I wanted to go that way... had me over a barrel... the buggers.... Brett, Tell them to fit the relay next to your original battery. It will mean they have to remove the battery, but hey F^@K em... When i had mine done, they put the relays there.. works well and out of the way... Yep the LEDS work a treat.. but you should try and match with equivalent wattage globes... keep it legal and all... 18 w are the original..I think... so probably a 36 LED globe should work fine... Does anyone have access to the Toyota Technical Service Bulletins?

Can they check and see if there was any a tsb for the rear leaf spring noise.

I notice on the US tacoma leaf springs it was an issue and a TSB was issued) to fix or appease the issue with replacing the leaaf spring silencer kit, which im guessing is the teflon style pads in between the leafs.

Apart from that be nice to see all the TSB in relation to the hilux.

Just had the recall work done. I have the ugly arse alloy Toyota bar too. The wiring relay harness was installed after they undid all of my other relays for other lights. It sits just next to the battery. Going to be interesting if I want to get a dual battery system.
The bonnet bit is way bigger than I thought it would be. It makes the bonnet a lot heavier than it was before. They have a strip of steel than runs about a metre wide all along the underside of the front of the bonnet. They replace the sound cancelling fabric and rubber strips too to stop steel filings from getting trapped and rusting.
I bought a plastic bonnet protector from them yesterday too. Cant fit that anymore so that will be going back today.
Let me know if you want any photos.

Redbeard,
Yes, I heard that one on Friday! That once you have the recall work done the bonnet protector does not fit. (have to through it away.)

No new part # for a bonnet protector to suit recalled bonnet work.

Have any of you out there had this issue?

Regards,
Camwill69

The holes that you use to fit the bonnet protector are covered over. You could do a home made job but I am taking mine back.
