Toyota Recall's 8,000 Tacomas

Postby Hilux Max on Sun, 14 Feb 2010 8:37 +0000

Whats going on with Toyota lately.....they are strict as on quality so how are quality issues getting through to the vehicles?

http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/02/13/tacoma.recall/index.html?hpt=T2

Toyota announced a voluntary safety recall of about 8,000 four-wheel-drive Tacoma trucks in North America, citing potential production defects in the front drive shaft of certain 2010 models.

The automaker said Friday that the front shaft in a small production run of pickups may include a component that developed cracks during the manufacturing process.

As the vehicles are used, the cracks could lead to "the separation of the drive shaft at the joint portion."

So if you bust a CV, blame toyota and get it replaced under warranty

Toyota recalled more vehicles (% wise per number of vehicles sold) than any other manufacturer in the world last year. Mitsubishi was second.

Quality is gone for toyota at present.

Do Toyota sell more cars than anyone else in the world though?

Well that too. I was wondering if their recalls were du to them being committed to producing a top quality product. Some of the other brands of vehicles are atrocious and make our weak clutches look immaterial. do a search on problems with a holden Astra for example.

I reckon Toyota would do more recalls to fix problems where as other makers would pretend there isn't a problem and let the customers worry about fixing them...

It looks bad when they have such public recalls, but at least they are doing something about it. Ask Nissan about problems with the 3.0l Patrol and they would say "What problems?" Problems with the rear doors cracking, "What problems?" Problems with the dash bubling, "What problems?" Problems with the color coming off centre console and ashtray, "What problems?"

You get the point.

Antz,

I agree 100% that's exactly the sort of BS from companies (Nissan are the worst IMO) I am talking about.

Antz, you forgot the ones about 3Lt motors blowing up and front diff housings cracking.

Read an artical about the recall of Toyotas, the general opinion is it will take many years for Toyota to gain the confidence of customers back considering Toyota had a reputation of building the most reliable (and dull) vehicles around.

I think Toyota don't want the same happening to then as what happened to Mitsubishi in 2000 whereby they got prosecuted by the Japanese Govt and a few of their senior people committed suicide over covered up faults.

In 2002 Mitsubishi recalled over 400000 vehicles due to a engine shut down issue.

Call me cynical...US auto industry is on it's knees and viola, all of a sudden there are numerous legal proceedings in US against toyota resulting recalls for issues...one being a floor mat!
easy way to regain market share...discredit your opposition...but that's just my thoughts
