MY08 Upgrade

Postby olcoolone on Mon, 12 May 2008 8:26 +0000

I heard they are going to come out with the D4D 180Kw V8 and six speed manual or auto box, front and rear diff locks, 17 inch wheels and 300mm ground clearance, 1500Kg. carrying capacity and 4000Kg. towing capacity.......SOUNDS GOOD

All this for just $17,000 more then the current version.

I would be surprised if Toyota put audio controls on the HiLux steering wheel as they dont event have it on the new 200 series until you get to the Sahara model. Also it beats me why you would want a supercharged V6 hilux, the last thing HiLux needs is more power in the V6, If they refined ride and NVH and the brakes on a D4D with 5 speed auto and gave it a bit more power that would be a better option than the TRD V6. and $70k for a drum braked hilux thats crazy

I totally agree, Tonym, when you look at other hilux models overseas none of them have audio controls on the steering wheel. And i have the same opinion on your comment with brakes/transmission. The TRD is totally over priced.8-)

i have no doubt people will buy the TRD, but id say the only ones you will see in the scrub doing any real 4x4ing will be the ones in the magizine pics.

I wonder how hard it would be to fit the audio control steering wheel to current model? I hate reaching over to try and turn that crap small dial!!!!

It would be a part you could order from Toyota, but I'd expect $300 for a $10 part.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them on ebay out of Thailand.

I am pissed that my lux will be here very soon, and I am missing out on the update. Think I'll get the new bumper if it looks any better (not that anything is wrong with the current one - why up date the look when all we want is modern drivetrain???)

Hey Redlux,

How genuine is your information from your dealer, on the my08 update on the hilux. Where did you get your info from?

Because I'm curious, i've checked the toyota press room website and their is no information on any update as yet on the hilux except for trd hilux. I'm trading in my v6 SR5 hilux for a t/d SR5 and i asked my dealer about the update as you've mention, and they haven't heard anything that you've put in your post.

Could you please respond, it would be appreciated!

I've heard the same thing as redlux, directly from a Toyota salesman. With production not being due to start till August, keep at the back of yr mind that it'll be probably at least a couple of months after that before any roll a wheel off a boat here.

Your right 4hilux, mine is on the boat now. I asked about swapping for a facelift, but it means a re-order, and I won't see it till October.

Decided if the new one looks that much better, I'll upgrade the front end later (probably to the TRD front)

Thanks guys for the info, redlux if you upgrade your front end later maybe to a trd front, remember the trd front end is a one piece unit, grill & bumber is combined not like on the normal hilux its a two piece unit. The trd hilux front end can only accept a nudge bar not a bull-bar. Just letting you know. :)

Wonder when we will start to see photos of the 09........?? If they change the front too much, it'll mean current model's bullbars might not swap over.......
