Surely Toyota wouldn't let it go till the new model for that long :? :?

How reliable is "bloke from Thailand on newranger.net"?

Id say pretty reliable. I posted this start of Sep.

Anyone want to put bets on 2017-2020  Well silly YES now we have all the years covered from 2013 -2020.
I would take it all with a grain of salt! (bloke from Thailand--Thailand has over 220 million people at last count).
Really time to stop guessing.
Only one thing for sure Mr. TOYOTA really knows beyond all doubt but he isn't telling anyone reliable as yet.

^^ Good point and very true, unlikely anyone "Reliabe" knows anything yet! Which frustrates me as I am preparing to buy my first Hilux and am unsure if I should buy a second hand one while I wait to make the big purchase of a new one or buy a new one now and be well positioned for upgrade at time of release of new model... The lack of Reliable blokes in Thialand are not helping my decision!!!

I've been buying landcruisers for years and my Toyota guy is always bang on the money when it comes to info on new toyotas. I had specs of the 200gx in front of me just after the grainey pics of the barn door 200 appeared. He was right about the dual cab 70 series when ppl from the mines thought it was bull****.

Anyway he says all new hilux due 3rd or 4th quarter 2013. Initial crash testing already performed of course aiming for 5 star ancap. I was going to get my first hilux 2012 model and he didn't have to tell me. Personally I'm holding off.

Its not an all new hilux....its a "major facelift" to keep it going on till next new model.

Mate,

I'd much rather this series than an untested all new model.

Remember it took them about 5 years to sort this one out (sort of).

Guy's,

Toyota do a major model change approx every 9 years, this may help in working out when the new one will be released.

Cheers

2014 is looking more likely given earlier comments made by Toyota in September 2011 when the latest refresh model was announced they advised a new model was due in 2014.

There was an article last week on new cars being released in 2013. The details mentioned only the RAV4 is being released this year for Toyota in Australia.

What was interesting is that in September 2011 was the comment that the Japanese chief engineer had already visited Australia several times between Jan and Sept 2011 to review needs for the new model. This being the case I would say they are now well underway with the new model. This would mean close to 3 years of design/development!

Toyota really have missed the timing. There are several rivals that have offered more competition. 2013 should have been the year for release.

If Toyoa just made a minor lol engineering alteration to the new generation Hilux, and introduced fully independent suspension...... Have the same suspension as the Prado or something....They would be Oh so comfortable.....

My shape Hilux is pretty harsh on the kids in the back seats...I sat in there once and was bounced around a bit.

And I reckon they'd blow all the competition completely out of the water.....I guess I'm dreaming  ....

Cheers.

I doubt they are going to release anything relatively soon after releasing the dual cab cruiser. While not exactly the same market, they will want to make the most of any investment without stealing it's thunder.

It's funny how everyone is bagging the current Hilux as being outdated but look at the sales figures, I don't think Toyota sees any real urgency to rush a new model to the market
I was speaking with a dealer recently and she was telling me that the only competition they are copping is the Amarok, the other brands are not an issue to them. I would of thought the Ranger would have given some grief but not so

The problem with all the new models out and just like the new Hilux may have is. It's all new technology for those companies so not proven to last and has problems.

If a hilux had independant suspension all around then why would you buy one? Its a ute for gods sake not a prado!

Why is it that solid axle is being phased out for ifs? Is there not enough demand for the Toyota as a 4wd. Or is the majority of demand for a work ute that's capable of 4wd

Even the new patrol wagons are ifs I think.

IFS performs better on road which is where the majority of 4WDs spend most of their time. With electronic traction control (and the some factory lockers) lack of flex becomes less of a problem for a large percentage of people off road. Like everything, cars are built for the mass market and to a price. The more "performance" areas have less demand and therefore less market potential. This is why there are lots of commodores and not so many ferraris.

I would buy one simply because there is complete separation from the tub to the cabin which Prados and the like do not have....In my work we need that complete separation for safety to say say the least...If I didn't need that for work then I would probably not buy a ute anyway...Don't get me wrong I love the Hilux...It's a great car... just answering your question...

Maybe that kind of argument could be used for when they added the 4WD part of the 4WD Hilux's too ...It's a ute for Gods sake not a 4WD! .... There is nothing wrong with improving things... and changing from Leaf springs to Independent suspension improves many things IMO including It's 4WD capabilities and comfort. Like Imichie mentioned before I also don't think it will happen any time soon...

Cheers.
