Having one of the few Hilux's in the USA, I always get peoples head turning when I drive by. My 2009 Hilux compares more closely in size to the earlier 2000 Tacomas in looks. The Tacoma here with the V6 gasser is about the same in torque as the 4 cyl diesel. I get about 26 MPG while they get 16 MPG. The Hilux has more towing capacity and more hauling capacity. I don't get the grass is greener on the other side of the fence syndrome. I am very happy with my Hilux over a gasser Tacoma.

Bloke from thialand on newranger.net reckons the next gen Hilux has been pushed back to 2016 .

Surely Toyota wouldn't let it go till the new model for that long :? :?

I hope you're wrong. I won't be driving my current hilux in 2016, nor will I buy the same model again. If they don't pull their finger by the time I'm due to upgrade, I might be jumping the fence.

I guess if there selling so well at the moment and orders are still 6 months out , there isn't a great deal for toyota to panic about and rush a new model :(

If the new hilux is pushed back to 2016 is it possible the emissions standards will much tougher by then and mean that egr's no longer meet standards which will then see the introduction of scr technology in its place?? New chev silverado's do in the states, makes me think it's not too far away for us...

It's basically a urea solution that is injected into a special muffler and mixes with exhaust gases to reduce harmful emissions. Euro 5 rated Heavy trucks are running it now, Volvo, UD, Mercedes are just some. Eliminates the need for egr's or dpf's

Does it need to be constantly topped up though?

It does need to be topped up. Maybe every 5 or 6 tanks of diesel. Varies from make to make. The silverado's get approx 5000 k's to a 26lt tank of adblue (a common name for urea solution) if my memory serves correctly. Fendt tractors are running it Europe now, not yet here. The fact that its been in Europe for a while and the americans are now using it makes me think its only a matter of time until it is implemented in our cars/4wds.

I've seen "Adblue" at the Truck bowsers recently.

I know in the volvo's, if the adblue tank runs out it detunes the engine, not sure how much though. Apparently you can't just top it up with water either. Some guys on the duramax (chev not Isuzu) forum in the states say there are sensors in the silverados that must read the ph/alkaline levels or something to that effect so you can only use adblue.

You'd have to do it yourself, just like another fuel tank but less often.

Truck dealerships, truck parts retailers and some petroleum depots sell the adblue in 44's or 1000lt IBC's. At the end of the day it's another running cost but I'd rather it than egr. Interesting times ahead for light diesels...

How reliable is "bloke from Thailand on newranger.net"?
