If there looking at a mercedes engine it will be the V6 that the jeep grand cherokee had, 3L and about 170kw diesel Reno has a simlar engine. But knowing Toyota they will derate it to 150kw so it lasts longer and dosen't step on the 70 series toes.

I would love to see a new spec out of them just for 4WDs something that could make it up the Creb and OTT straight off of the show room floor like Jeep done with there Rubicon.

I'd love to walk into the dealer and say. . . . Toyota Hilux "Creb" pack please :D

I wish the new chassis would accomodate that sweet v8 TD... Id also like some more refined creature comforts. :P

I vote the 200 series engine options in a Hilux... as an option. Nice Auto...

SIgn me up... Mine will be due for a refresh in 2014.

well owing a TTD 200 series......this engine in a hilux would be a true weapon lol. I have done exhaust a chip on mine and for a 3000kg truck it goes quite well

I think they should base the styling on the current 4Runner, it looks a bit like a mitsu outlander nose on an FJ Cruiser body, and the top models would go well with a factory S/C V6 or a 5 or 6 cyl TD...

That said, it'll probably just show up with the same face as the Rav, Prado & 200, and they never give you the engines you want :( But that's what keeps the aftermarket in business, lol.

SO, Anyone got any inside leaks/ hints/ statements or other about 2014 being the release date still? I had heard stories that it could be pushed back as far as 2015 because of the Thailand floods and production of a new current model Hilux being months or have they caught up and back on track for a 2014 release?? Maybe even earlier by some stroke of luck??

This is now a 2015 model which usually means a late 2014 release.
2013 model will be upgraded to 5 star safety compliance across the range which means traction control, ESC and more airbags std.

No news on new engines trans etc. still too early to know.

I follow if your talking about SR models. But what about SR5....doesn't it already (in 2012 model) have all of the alphabet soup add on bits? what are they going to do to SR5 (in 2013 model) to get the ANCAP 5 (currently ANCAP 4). Any ideas?

V8 Td is too wide for 7th gen, but this is a wish list for 8th gen...

Would a body lift help the situation or is it just too wide from inner guards to inner guard?

Well if they use the v8 hopefully it's not like the cruiser where they made the wheel track wider at front to fit the engine but left the rear where it is. Which doesn't make sense

All they need to do is resubmit it for testing with all the current SR5 safety fruit. They have not retested since they upgraded as it is expensive and not seen as necessary.....until now.

http://www.newsday.com/classifieds/cars/next-gen-tacoma-could-align-with-hilux-1.3892599

One possibility is that the chassis from the Tacoma and Hilux will become more closely aligned with engineering and design. The official word from Toyota, however, is that it doesn't plan to make any such announcements at this time.

It is quite odd for a company to make two identically sized and equipped vehicles that fill the same market segment but keep two entirely different styles and models for separate markets. The North American Tacoma is the best-selling midsize truck in the U.S. market, but the Hilux enjoys great success in the Asia, Europe and South America.

To get the 5 star ANCAP rating I'm pretty sure they will need a over the shoulder seat belt on the duel cabs too

That would kill off or conflict with Prado sales

They sell both here. The Prado is still more popular. I think because the fortuner is still relatively new and cost a few grand more.
