Prados don't have independent rear suspension... Just coil live axle.

Does anyone think it is worth the wait? I am currently pricing up a dual cab landcruiser gxl. I'm not sure if I should buy a cruiser or wait 2 years. I have a 2010 hilux. I tow a 2.5tonne boat most weekends so that's why I am looking at upgrading.

The Hilux has a better turning circle and lock than the Cruiser but the cruiser is a better tug if you need to manouvre the boat into tight spaces.
A mate has a a large tandem axle boat and a 79 Cruiser and a 100 series cruiser but tows with the 100 series as the 79 lock is too hard in tight spaces to get around. The dual cab cruiser is a great thing though.

I personally don't think the new Hilux will be a whole lot different powerplant wise and possibly even a revamped version of the current D4D, no inside knowledge just a gut feeling

Agree Alby. Even if the next Hilux has a vastly improved tow rating like a Ranger it still wont be an awesome tow vehicle IMO. When it comes to weight you can have all the power on paper and high boost but nothing beats a lazy big motor like the 4.5 cruiser for all day towing.

What is it that improves the towing capacity?

The Holden Colorado has a braked towing capacity of 3500kg and unbraked capacity of 750..

How is it they come up with these figures?

Toyota Aust are conservative with towing figures, the same Hilux OS is rated higher
I think they are being realistic / conservative whereas other brands are flaunting big numbers as a marketing/ sales tool
If you read the fine print of others with ball weight and GVM actual weights they are very similar in reality anyway

They are a combination of things like the GVM (I don't think you can tow something heavier than your GVM but I could be wrong) and the drivetrain (some vehicles have a different rating for auto or manual).
750kg is the max for any trailer before it must have brakes so this figure is only of any relevance if the manufacturer only rates the vehicle for less.

That would make sense but I can't see the Colorado weighing 3500kg

I am not too sure weather other brands are the same but I know Holden's figures of 3.5T towing is if an average person of 80kg is driving with no passengers and no weight in tub/tray...
This can effect your towing quite abit with those variables...

Same with a navara..one person, no weight in tub and half a tank of fuel if you want to be legal. Hilux, 5 people , full tank and full load in tray.

Sounds like no new power plant or that link doesn't mention it. Maybe there will be a new motor and Toyota don't want to say to much just yet.

Whatever and whenever Toyota do the next generation all new Hilux, we all know they have a tendency to run their models for probably up to 10 years with only minor tweaks and face lifts, as per the current Hilux. So if it doesn't substantially leap frog what the opposition are currently offering it will be out classed fairly quickly.
