Get some sax 3 stage rear leaves. They make a huge difference.

About how much would a set of those leaves fitted set you back Ajh?

Cheers.

I would buy one simply because there is complete separation from the tub to the cabin which Prados and the like do not have....In my work we need that complete separation for safety to say say the least...If I didn't need that for work then I would probably not buy a ute anyway...Don't get me wrong I love the Hilux...It's a great car... just answering your question...

Maybe that kind of argument could be used for when they added the 4WD part of the 4WD Hilux's too ...It's a ute for Gods sake not a 4WD! .... There is nothing wrong with improving things... and changing from Leaf springs to Independent suspension improves many things IMO including It's 4WD capabilities and comfort. Like Imichie mentioned before I also don't think it will happen any time soon...

Cheers.

Independent suspension does not improve 4WD capabilities. Don't confuse independent with coils which is what the Prado has on the back but still runs a live axle. If you want to see how independent rear suspension performs off road, try a current model Pajero or Pathfinder.

Monster Rides wrote:Hey Fellas,

Thought it might be worthwhile breaking down the pricing on these Sax 3 Stage leafs springs so that it is clear what you get in the packages.

All of the 3 Stage leaf packs come with:

2 x 3 Stage Leafs Packs

2 x Greasable standard length shackles

All Leaf and shackle bushes

4 x U Bolts.

So there is nothing else to purchase, just bolt it all on.

So when you consider that most suspension suppliers sell the bushes, shackles and u-bolts for around $80 per item... so $200 - $240 all up these ad a fair bit of expense on top of the leaf pack price.

So here is a re-cap on pricing:

Recreational $1050 (Both Standard height, and 2" lift)
Performance $1150 (2" lift only)

Cheers

I think if Toyota offered a Coil Rear option on the hilux with the front IFS that would be a winner....like I said, an OPTION for those that dont require heavy load carrying ability of the leaves.

Leaves can be made to work well and are cost effective in comparison to a linked rear coil setup.

Next generation hilux has ALOT of local engineering input into the design of the vehicle so you can bet it will be even more suited to Australian conditions thaqn the current model is.

Fair enough point, I think I was confusing the two...I like Hilux Max's idea as offering something else as an option if practicably possible.

And thanks for reposting the prices of those leaves. I appreciate that. Not a bad Idea for when my lux runs out of warranty.

I'll be looking on with great interest to see what Toyota offer in their New generation Hilux.

Cheers.

It's about a grand for the leaves. You can fit them yourself. Shouldn't be too much to get them fitted by a shop. Less than 200 I would say.

They wont do anything drastic to the rear end any time soon due to Thailand.
I was reading somewhere that in Thailand (which is the worlds biggest market for utes for memory) for a ute to be classed as a commercial and get a much lower tax rate or something it has to have drum brakes and leaf springs in the rear. If it wasnt for thailand we would have rear discs by now. Note the ssangyongs which arent sold in Thailand have disc brakes and irs.
I would love a coil five link rear! After riding around in a couple of hundred series and driving a prado a bit i sure like coils and wouldnt miss the old kick you in the arse leaf springs!

Been Lurking on this site as I am in the Market for a New HiLux. Had 150 series Prado for 3 years and have decided don't need the 7 seats and like the idea of a HiLux SR5 Diesel. Anyway, local Toyota Dealer told me today expect NEW model HiLux Q3 2013. Didn't try to pressure me to buy stock they had, but did say drive away price on Dual Cab SR5 Diesel Automatic currently $51k!!!.... Let's see......

I doubt Q3 is accurate, anyway I have emailed TOYOTA Australia directly, last time I asked them a direct question about upgrade (Prado) the information they sent back was very accurate. Will post when get a reply...

Nice work Aja, the new model I bet he's referring to for Q3 is the 5 star UDPATE, nothing more.

If a new hilux model was to come out next year or the year after I'd wait until that model becomes more refined and a bit more value is added...

RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA AUSTRALIA....

Thank you for contacting the Toyota Customer Experience Centre.

With regards to your email regarding the Hilux, we can advise that there will be a technical change to the Hilux single and extra cab and double cab at the end of the year, however we cannot advise the specific details or dates of this release at this point in time.

Probably just the necessary updates to get the 5 Star Safety Ratings in order to appease the pull out by the likes of BHP and other mining companies who have stopped purchases of HiLux as a result...

I will wait for this update before I make my purchase of a Diesel Dual Cab SR5...

Why would they want to hurry up the new model when sales on the current one are leading in terms of the ute market? If they lost the number one spot to another manufacturer different story.

Not sure if this is true or not, but a bloke thats been a life long buyer of hiluxes and cruisers asked me if i'm going to upgrade to the new hilux in 2014-2015. I had no idea about a new hilux but he said something about a v6 diesel or a twin turbo diesel will be in them. Probably all nonsense but a v6 or twin turbo would be much appreciated compared to all the ranger/bt-50 and amarok utes. Food for thought :)
