Does your fuel filter look like this?

Postby Mattya on Thu, 22 Sep 2011 3:23 +0000

Just thought I'd show what our filters look like at every 12 week service. Some are worse, some are better. Depending on the amount of use. We haven't had an engine fail yet since 2006. 12 weeks is what the planners estimate the vehicles to do 10000km.

I'd say that looks fairly good, all things considered i guess. Its fairly black in the centre section but the pleats are still white, i know when i changed mine at 30k it was looked the same except the pleats were much much more yellow and stained. For the price of a new one i might just keep changing then every 30k or 40k, im also running a racor pre-filter so that should hopefully keep the factory cleaner and last longer before changes...

Mine looks like the same and I replace it every 10,000 km.
I try to fill up at big servo's that have a large turnover of Diesel only.
That way I limit the contaminants going into my tank that have been sitting in the servo's .

Cool. I'm quite interested in how they look after 10k with the pre filter also. I think we pay something like 50c a liter for diesel and I thought the quality was less than normal.

My filter at 55000km, vehicle is ex council so dont know its fuel history but sure the filter hadn't been changed since new. I checked it at 10000km and looked ok. I'll change it before next big trip but always carry a spare under back seat.

Now that's dirty.

Good insurance to change it more often.

Mine was a little bit worse then the one above after 75000km. I don't think it had ever been changed

It will be getting changed every 5-10 Thousand from now on.

When I pulled housing off car to clean it there was some sticker on there saying "no need for periodical maintance" or some rubbish like that.

Has anyone found an improvement in fuel consumption and/or power as a result of replacing their fuel filter? My lux is a bit heavy on the juice and does lack a bit of power when overtaking

Luke,

Fuel consumption improvement - don't think so.

Power - can't feel it.

How long has it been since you changed your fuel filter?
Cheers

When a Toyota maechainc noticed my pre filter he asked why i had fitted it (so I explained) he said there is no need for replacing the genuine fuel filters on service intervals, he also said they will turn black regardless of quality of diesel & turn black within a day of being fitted & couldn't explain why.
My reply was thats nice i'll continue to change mine.

Though He had pleasure informing me that my pre-filter voided all warranty to do with the fuel system.

That makes no sense to me. Like saying your skid plate voids the warranty on your oil pan.
