Dust Ingress

Postby Richard on Sat, 29 Sep 2007 6:52 +0000

Took a trip out to the Goyder river last week, 636km return trip dirt road, and was surprised and dismayed the next morning when I gave the new car the once over to find a lot of dust had entered the rear of the cab.

Anyone else had the same problem and is there a solution?

I assume you have a canopy and mean through the rear tailgate? I bought some rubber molds from Clark Rubber which sealed the tailgate a lot better than standard. I have not travelled on any bulldust roads since insatalling so the big test has not been performed yet.

Cheers Doug but I'm talking in the cab itself - have a dual cab.

I'm going to mention it to the dealer when it's in for the complementary service but I'm not sure if there's anything they can do.

Richard,

Did you set the ventilation to recirculate?

The Hiluxes ventilation system is pretty good as when I'm following a truck going uphill which is belching black smoke, I can't smell the diesel fumes inside the cabin.

Dust ingress has not been an issue for me even after a major trip which was on gravelled roads for about 500kms.

Regards

Brendon

Yep Brendon I did have it on recirculating. I would have thought being a brand new vehicle the problem wouldn't have show for a few years once the door seals had started to wear.

Dust Ingress

Richard,

I travel many bulldust rds out here in the work Lux. I always winter/summer set the vent to fresh air with the fan on full blast. This helps pressurise the cabin. No dust.

I only ever turn the vent to recirculate when behind a vehicle or with on-coming vehicles. That's when the dust ingresses the cabin. Hope this helps.

Cheers

Thanks Doinit,

Will give it a try on the next trip but will still mention it at service time.

Richard,

If do do have ineffective door seals, whack some vasoline on the seals next time you drive dirt rds. That should indicate where the dust is getting into the cabin.

I filled up the vents the black ones at the rear of the cab with expandable foam from the inside which stopped all the dust and when you have the fan on with outside air it is totally pressurised
