Smart Gauge for 2005/2006 Hilux

General discussion of basically anything Hilux related

Thanks, for the super fast reply, Steve! :)

I tried plugging it in with the ignition ON and it now appears to work fine... It gave me an alarm telling me the battery is low. It's only been sitting for a week and the new battery is at 11.7 volts.

I guess the chunky holder is to make up for the extra $50 I paid over you guys. :)
Doubt I'll use it either, well maybe parts of it. I might clip it into the air vent on the right side of the dash.

Yep, it's gone from US$99 +US$29 delivery to US$149 +US$29 delivery. AU$205.85 it ended up costing me.

Checked my two week old battery and it's at 12.6 volts with a multi meter, with the Scan Gauge showing 11.7, motor off. 13.8 - 14v with the motor on indicated by the Scan Gauge. Must be a voltage drop somewhere. I changed one of the battery terminals because it wouldn't tighten, so I guess I'll check there for a start. Motor starts fine, first go.

I mounted the chunky lil sucker using the air vent mount modified and stuck to the back.

Randal,

Some close up pictures of your mounting position would be nice.

only prob there is that you're blocking your vent.. and you'll either heat the unit or freeze it ! ;)

Close ups... The cable presses into the rubber door seal and down across the top of the kick panel.

This is just a vent mount that I've double sided taped to the back of the Scan Gauge.

We were just out on some very corrugated roads and much to my delight it didn't move, rattle or anything.

I don't think the heat and cold will be a drama, Steve. :)
I hate the cold blowing on my fingers, and heat is always on my feet.

I was monitoring the following today ECT (86-88), FTM (118) IAT (avg 23). I'll have to stick Brendon's list in the ute, because I couldn't remember what they all stood for.

Ohhh, is that the horizontally mounted radiator looking thing under the back of my ute? I was thinking how stupid it was, as it has obviously been hit by rocks.

Fuel cooler under back of ute? I think mines mid way? Straight under the center of the dual cab.. Would of this been moved to fit long range tank? Oh btw mine is dinted too lol

Randal,
Thanks for the pictures.

I have set my voltage alarm to 13v and have noticed that at low speeds or near idling the alarm comes on occasionally when the voltage dropped below 13v.
It's just momentary and goes up above 13v quickly but it still triggers the alarm.

Yes, the fuel cooler is actually under the centre of the dual cab.
Cheers

Should work on your 2005 Hilux.

2007 onwards will work on Scangauge.

My Smart Gauge came with a big, bulky holder. I just used part of it and double-sided taped it to the back.
Having used it for some time mounted as it is, I think I'll be looking to mount it more solidly, slightly higher on the dash, as it has started to move on rough bumps. I very much like the location though, as it just takes a glance to see my 'true' speed when cops pass. :)

Downer, for the record, my ute is an '05 with the 3 litre D4D. ScanGaugeII doesn't work, but the Smart Gauge works well. :-)

Thanks to you all..I've ordered one should be here next few days, tracking shows it is in NZ, but of course its xmas time. I also tried the scanguageII in a 2007 Hilux (when I still had the guage), but it also did not work. The Hilux was also assembled in Thailand..Cheers... :)
