Mark,

I'm using a K&N.

I'm currently out of town and the Hilux is at home!

I'll be back tomorrow evening and will check the part number for you once I'm back.

Cheerio
Cheers

Be careful with a K&N if you do a lot of water crossings.

Oiled foam filters don't stop water like a paper filter does!

i've got one fitted, number on box is E-2296
only thing to note as with my experiences with car's with hot wire air flow meters, is that oil may clog it up after time, give it a clean with meth / electronic cleaner type thing.. once a year or so.

Thanks guys... good advice... and will certainly take it... I have a Safari Snorkel, so that sould take care of any water ingestion... (coz yes I do a fair few water crossings licing in Darwin)... Clean the air flow meter.... can do.... Cheers TOMUCH

What sort of power increase do you expect or is it more for the servicing side of things?

I don't expect a large increase in power, but if it breaths easier it will produce power easier.... plus the advantage of 'never' having to replace it.... Cheers TOMUCH

K&N Air Filter

Postby 9W6VX on Thu, 22 Mar 2007 3:52 +0000

My personal experience with the K&N on my Hilux.

I feel a marginal power improvement over the standard air filter.

The reason I switched over to the K&N, longevity on blacktop and slight better hp through it's breathing.

But if I were to go offroad with lots of dust, I would use the original paper filter.

Brendon, why would you change back to the paper filter... The K&N is supposed to be a better filter overall... and it is washable... also with the oil film on the filter it attracts dirt and dust, this actually improves its ability to filter particles... that is until it is completely chocked... but a standard filter would be the same once chocked with dust.... Mark,

I reckon that the K&N filter it to breathe too well allowing it to choke too fast compared to the paper filter.

Am in Singapore at the moment.

Guys, I have researched K&N filters a little more... now I know my information is from the K&N site... but with a claim like this , you would have to think they are on the level...I am refering to Mischiefs statement above ref oil contaminating the hot wire air flow sensor... nothing personal mate, just though this was interesting reading... check this site out... comments welcome..

K&N Air Filter

TOMUCH,
no problem :) like i said, it may happen, I've seen it happen & also know of ppl running k&n & other oiled filters with no issues, could be when ppl re-oil the filters they use too much oil (after washing)?
Just thought I'd mention it so if it does happen you know what's going on & that its an easy fix :)
