To H20PRF

I have the Toyota upgrade alarm fitted to mine and all you get for the money is a bit of noise plus you can't lock the truck with the turbo timer running. It's not worth the money. IMO go for a Cobra or something similar.

standard security, the vehicle is immobilised and dissarmed via the key transponder. If your concerned about theft of the vehicle, then fit a tissonics/touch tech system. They are wired to a dash screw so that you have to touch a specific screw before the car will start, so even if your keys are stolen they cant start the car unless they know where to touch.

Fit a typical remote activated system and the car can be stolen if the theif has your keys

Is theft that much of a problem these days with the immobiliser that has to be activated by the transponder in the key?

the vehicles are usually stolen to assist in robbery's, ie they break into you house while your out in the wifes car. Fill up your ute with your household goods, find the keys and take off. happened to a friend of mine. They filled up his ute while it was in the garage and he was out.

From that are you saying that unless they find your keys they are hard to take or is additional security advisable?

Guys
about this transponder thing
i have a third key which has no transponder (factory issue)
this works just fine ie i can open car and start
so what is the deal with the immobilizer working only off a transponder key

Thinking about it every thing you can fit will stop some crooks but if they really want it they can easily get it.If they Just walk up to you at a servo, car park, even in our own driveways-put a magnum 44 or sawn off shotgun at your forehead & say give us your keys don't think we will argue with them.

drew all the keys have a transponder, the third key does not have a remote for the central locking but still has a transponder in it

alby, no you cannot start the vehicle unless you have a transponder key that is coded to the car

The Alarm System in my RIG allows me to have the vehicle stopped dead with a phone call and a code sent to the alarm,,,,,,,,,

So if some filth car jacked me , thats Kool drive off champ you will get no more that 500m up the road.......before its stopped dead.

Even if they slid it on a flat bed, or something else, the system still dials 3 mobiles to notify me that an intrusion has been made.

Thanks for the info guys, I was mainly concerned with shopping centres etc that they might be able to easlily override the system and drive off. I understand that they can still do the tilt tray gig etc. but that sort of stuff will happen if they really want it.

Darren that security system you have sounds very impressive.

Mate that sounds like very good value for money for a good system like that. Might put that on the ''to do' list

There's so many different types.

I used to run 2 x alarm systems in my last car.. a cobra and an extra immobilizer..

there's a pretty simple DIY one you can make too.. ill hunt up the link for it..
