Change the radio

Postby 4lex on Mon, 11 Dec 2023 9:12 +0000

Hello folks. I've recently picked up an 08 KUN26. It's fitted with Toyota's 6disc in dash MP3 changer, which is lovely, but the nice lady at officeworks gave me a sympathetic smile when I asked her for CDRs.

I'd like something apple-android compatible. Don't mind whether wired or wireless, would be nice if it had a reverse cam.

Is there something suitable available from a later model or a prado or whatever that'd be (mostly) plug and play, or am I looking at aftermarket here?

Cheers

I went the cheap android unit off ebay it really wants an amp and some better speakers to finish the job.
the gps crap all works with decent maps I never use the hands free on the phone is handy the reverse camera is there and works easy enough to install. the bloke before me in mine cut the loom all ready so the patch loom i had wasn't used in the end i joined the wires to the radios loom.if yours has the factory radio you could get a patch loom and not worry about what wire is what. $150 v's $500 for something like this https://gtzone.com.au/products/toyota-hilux-2005-2015-7-inch-wireless-carplay-android-auto-head-unit-navigation-bluetooth-wifi-head-unit?variant=44992861929760&currency=AUD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1

Thanks man. I have a couple of similar android units, the audio output is poor as you suggest. I thought the replacement surround looked a bit shit too, so hoped there might be an oem machine that fitted the bill.

Picked up a simple GPS ando need the following however, and wonder if anyone knows where to find the fujitsu style ultiplugs so I can wire my own? I see plenty of toyota to various brands adapters, but the oem plugs seem tough to find and I'll end up single pinning the connectors at this rate.

Traditional FM antenna to the new two pin job.
A plug for the reversing cam setup. I imagine this'll be a 12v signal to switch the display plus the composite video signal and ground? Would expect to power aftermarket camera separately.
A GPS antenna and apropriate connector
External mic to bluetooth stage

Just in case anyone has any or all of these gubbins in the shed?

All that stuff should of come with the radio? The GPS antenna will be fun to find on its own. I got the reverse signal from one of the reverse lights you're running a cable to the rear anyway the install kit I got with the radio supplied cable to do that

No, seller used aerpro cables to patch their new radio to the existing loom, as one would expect would be common? I guess wrecker sourced units would provide hacked off plugs.
