A couple of options include:
Asking old mate if he still has the original, get it plastic welded. Not a big job and easily touched up.
Practice being "Artistic" with a heat gun and some white drain pipe (various size choices) from Bunnings.
If you choose one of these options, then brackets & fittings can be used off the current bar.

Yeah, no fun in that, but it probably is the quickest cheapest & easiest.

I did think about painting it, would I need to prime the plastic? Or just go for the paint straight away? Just worried it will come out amateur looking

I will probably get justifiably shot down in flames for this one, but the way I'd do it,is to (depending what you're starting with) either use existing paint as your key ... OR ... Lightly scuff up the plastic with a medium grade abrasive paper and use the rough surface as your key.
Be careful which "Paint Prep" chemicals you use in getting ready as many of them will dissolve the plastic.

Getting it ready is the key
Yes prime it will make it easier to cover the black with white
Talk to your paint supplier to get the right primer and paint look on the vin plate for the paint #
Make sure you scrub all over with wet and dry sand paper and use water with it not dry around 200 to 400 grit should be all right
And multiples light coats spaced out so you don't get runs and a good spray gun.

Thanks guys maybe the best option is to take off the bumper and give it to the panel beater to paint professionally. Hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to do so. Then I can just reinstall it myself.

Anyone know if the original white bumpers are metal or plastic?

impossible to find a good one online.

I always knew the workmate bumpers were plastic.

But the white SR bumpers look metal?

Suggestion: try contacting bullbar installers, they remove them all the time, probably give you one for free.

Might even find an sr5 one, any n70 should fit.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

All plastic for safety for ones that can't cross the road.

I just bought another bumper off of gumtree this one is white but has a few minor scratches.

I want to repaint it. Do I still need primer if im just respraying it with the same colour? Or just sand and paint ??

very lite rub with same wet / dry 600 up wet
have the scratches go through the white paint if they have you will have to rub the spot back and use primer if not through you should get away with it remember lit coats or you will have runs.

all ways prime if you want it to look good? Every time I want to paint something its all ready painted in some sort of 2 pak which I cant paint at home. Last time I wanted to buy some paint from the paint shop it was cheaper to get the local panel shop to do the job.

You'll also find that no matter how good your paint mixer is it will never be perfect, paint the whole bar and not just the patch where the scratches are.

If they are just 'minor' scratches no need to paint - just get some scratch remover and polish out
