I think you need to remove the tub and get rid of it or cut it of very carefully whilst its attached...

I'm not sure how big but the tub can be lifted of with two blokes once unbolted. You may be able to do a good job from the tray side if you have the right tools.... You'll need to ask one of the engineering guys...

Steve,

I don't really need to, but i wanted it gone so i can put my work website across teh back window, that was my main motivation to do it, or rather remove it. i can always put the decals on the tail gate, but i thought the window would be a great option.

Cheers

Cut it off, just take off your roll bar and use a angle grinder. Just make sure you get rid of all the metal shavings otherwise you will end up with a bad rust problem.

When we fit canopies we just use a grinder and trim it off. Just make sure you use some sort of anti-rust sealant.

I did this to my truck two years ago because I didn't need the cargo barrrier and i was sick of looking at the bars in the rear view mirrow. Its a piece of cake with an angle grinder and some rust paint. The two outer bars when cut off will leave a little hole but the middle bars are solid with the tub and when ground of properly will leave no gaps.

Its easy.

Make sure you protect the cabin and window with a thick blanket so the sparks don't melt into the paint and window..

It would be easier to buy a tub from an 08/06 on hilux that comes standard without it. The alloy roll bar is different on the later ones so they sit closer to the cab.

Well wasnt too hard at all, removed the hardlid, then the Roll bar, then covered everything in canvas covers , taped areas , and got the 5" grinder out, with the paper thin stainless blades i use and voil'a , off in 20mins, quick grind with a sanding pad on the grinder back flush,

Then etch Primer, Rust gaurd black gloss paint, then 4 hours later 2 coats of Black mica, i had made up, then put all back together

Now i can see perfectly out of the rear window with ease.

Too easy and thanks for all the advice !

Cargo Bars yep a pain in the neck.

I have had to remove them on six of the seven Hiluxes I have had, because I always fit canopies,& will not let the canopie fitters touch my truck, with a grinder. The professional fitters at ARB are very good at fitting the canopie though.

So removed them all myself as has been said already use protection behind cab to protect window & paint from sparks.
I found the easiest was to jam a piece oh masonite into the space betrween cab & tub.
Cut bars through with cutting wheel then remove the bar get extra pair of hands so as not to scratch the paint on the truck when it comes away.
Then grind down stubs, I fill the corner holes with fibre glass sand everrthing down nice & smooth hit bare metal with etch primer, primer undercoat for ENAMMEL paint finish you can get paint mixed to your color code to finish off.
I use enammel because it does not yellow & you dont have to compound it to get a shine If you add a little enammel add to it hardens the paint just like the latest epoxy finishes.
Just feather the edges (using 400 wet & dry)of where you want to finish it to use a mask down to a definate line.
Beauty of enammel it will go over all paint types just light sand them first.
I also used the same method to fill the holes where my roll bar was fitted,It would be very hard to pick the paint job & canopie covers most of it anyway.

CHEERS.
