I had a good look underneath it and everything has gussets and extra bracing. So it's not just all show, it's built to last

Here's a question for the blokes who have built trays themselves. Roughly how much did it cost you guys in steel? Wanting to build a new tray for mine but I have no idea what a ballpark figure would be. My design is pretty simple.

Depends on the style of tray bud. If you use rhs it will be cheaper then using channel. If you use rhs for the headboard will be alot cheaper then putting pipe in. Can compromise looks tho. Simple rhs frame and head board would be around $400 for a dual cab probly cheaper. Add sandblast and paint, blinkers and the actual bed of the tray and it starts to add up

Ahh true. Thanks mate! Gives me something to work with anyway!
That's an awesome tray aswell max, I would definitely be buying that if it was square because I want to get a steel canopy made for mine.

You can still get a steel canopy to accomadate the small angled rear corners. shouldnt be an issue.

Got a xtra cab with HD ally tray, and am thinking of a mezzanine level with roof top tent so it sits below the roof line when collapsed, and I can still use the tray for all my gear. Anyone doing similar?

Most engineering places will be able to point you in the right direction. You will need to draw a template for them to bend to though.

I brought mine from obeico. But you can also get them from truck fit industries, dubbo city welding, Michell truck bodies. Most of them have the hilux shape in stock in either 3" or 2". Or if you can find some one with a 3" mandrel bender

Building The Perfect Tray

Postby Moistlux29 on Thu, 30 Jul 2015 6:42 +0000

Hey fella's, I know this would of been discussed before but I'm having some difficulty trying to find the right post with the information I'm chasing...

My aim is to build a tray for my 2007 Dual Cab Lux, but designing it has been harder then I had expected it to be...

If you could share some designs and finished products that would be superb..

Cheers
