2004/5 kzn165r "Economy Lift"

Postby csale on Sun, 08 May 2011 10:40 +0000

Greetings from Jamaica to all!

I have owned my bone stock 2004 3.0L TD DC SR5 Hilux for three years now and have been arduously searching forms and image libraries (read google images) for ideas and details on where i want to take my rig mod wise; and i am finally at a point where i know exactly what i want. Sadly i need to source everything from separate corners of the world as absolutely nothing is available locally.

Enough lollygagging and on with my question:

I want lift in order to run 33x12/15 tyres. I understand from emails with multiple vendors and forum posts that the way to go is 2" body and 2" suspension.... To be conscience as possible rather than ordering a full Ironman or Tough Dog suspension kit I am considering replacing the struts all around, torsion bars up front, and simply replacing the shackles and adding 2" lift blocks in the rear.

I want to know if anyone know the part numbers or can point me in the right direction to finding the part numbers for a "reputable" brand shock strut that i may be able to source in the U.S. (read rancho) to use for this little crazy plan of mine?

Any thoughts or ideas on same from everyone are more than welcomed!

Thanks in advance...
c.s

Hey mate welcome,
Some info here http://www.snakeracing.com.au/hilux-lift-kit-pre05.html about stuff.
With the front it is possible to winde up the tortion bars and just replace shocks and on the rear eather go a extended shackel or lift blocks under the spring pack amd replace the shocks and the body lift part is self explantery.
http://locktup4x4.com.au/hilux-4runner- ... nents-154/ also some more stuff.

Putsy: I am now realizing that in the rear shackles OR lift blocks can achieve what i'm looking for; rather than both. Google search is showing an alarming amount of horror stories with lift blocks. So i'm leaning towards shackles... I also found the part numbers for ranchos which i can get for half the price of anything from your corner of the globe or south america even....

Interesting thing about the body lift: half of posts that i have read state no steering extension is needed. That kit you linked to is nice especially that it has the bumper bracket; but is the steering extension needed? Before seeing that I was eyeing the xpajun lift (out of UK i believe).

Hey mmaaxx: I must say it is thanks to you that I am sold on the xrox bar... not as heavy as the usually bull bar, better for my needs, and less costly to ship due to packaging weight and size. Great work on your rig BTW!

Sorry for posting in wrong section. I was pretty sure I had this under suspension...

Here's a question for someone to help guide by build:
Does anyone have experience with an add-a-leaf kit? I am beginning to consider this rather than extended shackles in the rear...

UPDATE:
I am completely excited to have found a U.S. distributor (finally) that can sell me some OME suspension parts. I am liking what i see from tough dog a little more from the comments i've read, but i think i will have to take whats also closest to my locale.

All that i have found so far regarding Old Man Emu does not state what height lift is usually achieved... Can anyone comment on the following part numbers and their resulting lift?
OME front torsion bars 303003
OME rear shackle kit OMEGS17

I'm hesitant in winding up the stock TB's from reading others state that it makes the ride too harsh. Is that a valid argument?

Thanks a million in advance

Thanks to all for the help on this decision.

I ordered Rancho struts and set of shackles. Will wind up the torsion bars to get the front up. I should have the items in hand next weekend (fingers crossed). I'll be sure to update my build thread once they're installed in a few weeks!
