SAS

Hi All,

My first post on the forum!
I'm about to purchase a 03 sr5 TD duel cab and will be doing a locktup sas conversion on it. I have never seen one done so I thought I'd ask!! I just need to know what height to go as I don't know. My plan is to run 35's but still want it to be stable offroad. 3" or 4" lift?

Cheers,
Gary

Their 3 or 4 inch is more like 5 or 6 so id stick with the low one Its easier to bump it up a little with leaves than it is to lower it. They do flex like mad. Don't forget if u use the double cardon joint from the ifs front tail shaft u need to pull it apart and clearance it or it will bind up with the amount of travel u get.

So I take it a 3" is more then enough to run 35's?
Thanks for the advice!

I dont understand why the SAS kits always aim for making the vehicle sit too high.

4" + is too mych for real wheeling. your moving the front axle forwards anyway which helps with tyre clearance and approach angle....people need to get used to cutting fenders and keeping their trucks lower than having a vehicle that has a high COG but atleast their stock fenders look good

Its not always that easy though sometimes low isn't an option, but yes alot of people like to drive in the first layer of gravity.

Noticed on the locktup kit that the rear 3" flex kit doesn't include inverted rear shocks...
Does anyone have any pics of an actual 3" lift with sas front from locktup?

I'll most likely be running pro comp -50 15x8's and when I take it offroad I'll be running 2" wheels spacers as well so for height wise I will be increasing track width to match.

Cheers!

Carry spare tunnion bearings !!! They are gunna hate you and your scrub radius will suck -with neg 50 and 2 inch spacers the entire whell is outside the original centre ! Either that or get trunnion eliminators in there asap.
Max, in the case of Trailgear at least, its because the kit is designed for SASing 2wd as well and their chassis rails are straighter n therefore less clearance for the diff at maximum up travel . Without 4 inches on a 2wd chassis it would just be on the bumpstops all day. Key word here I think is "kit". It is aimed at being a general fit - from mall crawler to moderate wheeler and cater to a broad customer base.

Thanks Scotty, didnt realise that 2WD bit of info.

But you do see alot of Swapped trucks driveing around rediculously high. Ive seen 2nd gen trucks in the USA running nno more than a 2" suspension lift, gutted fenders, axle moved forwards and 40's on tons....low, wide and flexy as hell.....these trucks lreally work offroad and are stable as can be considering the setup.

Like at Tuff truck....how many NSW regoed trucks where there with 5" suspension, plus 2" bodylift on 35's.....?

rediculous unless your constantly driving in 5ft of water depth.

just my opinion...what do I know, I still run IFS

This is why I was telling my mate I changed my mind about lifting my bus.
I want to go the sas route with 4 link rear near stock height with flexy coils and no sway bars

Better off putting sway bars in the rear to make the front work more.

This is why I love forums, always get all the info you need!
Will be getting the 3" lift instead of the 4" lift. Thank you all for the advice, much appreciated!

In that case to save money wouldn't it be worth it to just make the rear better staying leaf sprung?

Depends on the sway bar, we use anit-rock sway bars they are a torsion bar system. They do not limit flex and do not need to be removed for offroad. Compleatly different the the normal patrol style sway bar

Sorry to dig up this old thread but... I'm planning on converting the front of my 04 single cab lux also, but with a coiled lancruiser diff. What suspension setups work well for that sort of thing as I am new to coils :D

Cheers!
