31s scrubbing

Postby Matt02hilux on Wed, 14 Mar 2012 12:30 +0000

Hi guys
I have a 2002 dual cab hilux
I have fitted a set of 31x10.5x15 muddies on -26 offset sunnies.
I also fitted a 2 inch toughdog lift kit, but the tyres still rub when under the slightest bit of compression and whilst turning. The torson bars have been wound up a bit...theres about 20mm left to the top bumpstop and about 30-35mm for the bottom bumpstop..
Is there anyideas about something i can do to stop this happening? As i think the torsion bars are wound far enough, is it possible to move the diff forward or anything like that?
Cheers for your help

Seems strange mate? I have a 2003 Dual cab with the same wheels although I am not sure on offset. I have 2" lift as well and have no issues.

Did you get a wheel alignment done after suspension lift and new wheels on? Shouldn't be any need to move the diff and you don't want to be winding up the torsion bars too much more.

A 2" suspension lift should allow you to run up to 33"'s with no real issue.

The only things that I can think of are wheel alignment, rim offset or perhaps the torsion bars are shot (did you replace them when you did the lift?)

Yeah i replaced the torsion bars and everything. Under about 10mm compression and turning, the tyre rubbs. Even with no mudflaps

How much are the torsions wound up mate? In talking about minimal conpression and turning at the same time is when it rubs. Rim offset is -26

As far as I know they haven't been wound up, havnt had a need to change them, ride certainly isn't to harsh. Hilux doesn't do a whole lot of 4wdriving but it has been up the high country and offroad on a few other occasions and still never rubbed. When I got these rims I was told they were a zero offset but I've never checked.

imo wrong off set. 0 is the generally agreed bet for 97-05 lux.

i have 31*10.5r15 no rub

31s scrubbing

Postby HardCharger on Thu, 29 Mar 2012 11:52 +0000

Rims in offset 0 should fix it and you can fit tire up to 265/75/R16s too with no issues. I made pretty much the same mistake by getting -22 offset rims with 31x10.5xR15s and had the same issues you did.

Let us know how it all works out.

I know this is an old post, but 225x75/16's shouldn't scrub at all. I'm running 245/75/16's and there's no scrub at all before and after putting aftermarket torsion bars in.

It's all in the offset, run enough negative offset and any tyre will scrub.

0 offset I would say will scrub on turning,
My guess is you were told -26 but have something different
I'm running -20 and 16x8 with 33's and when I got my car it had 2" Ome all round
Had no sides at all in road or loaded, only issues was when flexing 1 wheel as I would hit the cab before the bum stop, but a 1/2" body lift fixed that,

My next set if wheels will be a 17x9 -40 or 17x8 -30 with 285/75r17
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................
