Roof Racks/Canopy or Roof for 2004 model

Roof Racks/Canopy or Roof for 2004 model

Postby SilverSurfer on Wed, 17 Nov 2010 10:38 +0000

Hello All,

I'm (finally) the proud new owner of an '04 Dual cab Diesel.

I'm just wanting the heads up on whether to affix roof racks to the roof OR the canopy (ARB/follows profile of roofline) of my 'lux.

I've been doing a bit of research and had pretty much made up my mind on getting PRO-RACKS, as they seem to be well engineered in relation to noise/wind resistant and claim good/limited fuel consumption. However would like to hear feed back in relation to

1) Canopy flex (if mounted to the roof, surfboards smashing on the canopy when in rough terrain).

2) If mounted to the roof what sort of clearance/height is advised.

3) What are the pros/cons of mounting to the canopy?

4) Is there any paint or rubber lining damage to the car

NB. I'll be carrying 4-5 boards ranging from 9' - 6'2 ( I gotta check the weight on this )

Cheers in advance for your suggestions/advice

I've been doing similar research as I need to transport a Canadian canoe on top of my dual cab. One roof rack I found which looks to avoid the roof/canopy problems is the Maxi Rack from Jaram in WA (http://www.jaram.com.au/). It attaches to the sides of the tub, extends over the canopy and also extends out over the cabin roof, with no attachment points on the canopy or cabin roof. I have no idea on cost as I'm still chasing up details, but the quoted load limit is 200kg.

PS Do a search using the term "roof racks" and you'll get lots of previous posts on the subject. I noted a few problems with atttachment of some of the popular racks.
There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Silversurfer,

I believe the 04 model is also gutterless which means that it should be similar to the post 05 model.

Do a search and you will get lots of links.
Cheers
