If anyone finds a decent looking dual cab d4d manual let me know.
Manual...?
D4D?
I'd buy a V6 Auto.
Auto regardless... such abetter option for wheeling, what it gives away in engine braking it more than makes up for with smoothness and the ability to allow the transmission to do the hard work and drive smoothly, not stall and give your clutch a real hard time.
Team it up with a Lefty, Crawler or dual transfer cases and you'll have an ideal set up.
Add transmission cooler and you'll be set.
What is the attraction to the D4D?
Are you planning on long range touring?
Towing a lot?
A lot of deep water crossings?
If you're not forget the D4D. V6 is such a better option...
1. Cheaper to buy
2. Cheaper to maintain
3. Less chance of motor issues, they are pretty well bullet proof if well maintained.
4. More POWER.
Plus it's the 5 speed Auto in the V6.
Don't get me wrong the D4D's are cool, but they have a lot of issues and you need to spend a good $3K to get decent power out of them.
Ideal set up in terms of build ease, cost and drivability:
V6
Auto
Lefty - I've got one on the shelf
4.1 diff ratio's
35's
You'll find a heap of V6 Auto dual cab 2WD's as well... al lot more than the D4D's that's for sure.
Also why the Dual Cab? You got kids?
Extra Cab looks cooler, and more usable tray space.
Anyway sorry to bombard you with all of this, but with all of our collective experience here at MR and BC the above scenario is the truck we would all build if we were starting from scratch and going down the 2WD to 4WD conversion path.
Well actually Bud would build a single cab 2.7 and sit it on the limiter all day
Cheers,
Matty
