Success - High Idle Switch

Postby andy666 on Thu, 28 Jun 2012 7:01 +0000

SUCCESS!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Finally cracked the secret of the high idle.
https://vimeo.com/44856039
Its not a hand throttle that is adjustable on-the-fly (to hard at the moment), but a high idle switch. The high idle however is user adjustable by a small dial on a circuit board at the back of the switch. Anywhere from factory idle up to about 2500rpm. I can change the circuit to go higher but I did not see the need for an idle higher the 2500rpm

If there are enough people interested I'll make up some kits. Post your interest in a kit here and if there enough I'll start a for sale thread on Monday.

Notes:
Sorry but I will not be posting up a "how to" just yet. I have spent too much time and $$$$ to give it away. MAYBE after a while.

The switch is untested on a petrol Hilux. If there is anyone near Lismore NSW that has a petrol hilux for me to test on send me a PM.

This switch is not compatible for use with other rocker switches. The mini toggle switch is comes with is it as it is part of the circuit board (I'll post a picture up tomorrow)

Nice. How does it work and how much would a kit cost?

Cheers,

Chris.

Uses a custom circuit board I built and wires into the throttle pedal wiring. Can't give too much away ;) Its taken me a lot of trial and error to get it working. I'm going to test it a bit more over the weekend to make sure that there are no problems.

Kit would be about $80 including postage with Australia.

Looked at that, but so far I can't find the required components off the shelf. Parts would have to be custom, which would add to the cost.

Good stuff..
Seems to work just like the PWR Heater button on the SR5 when cold.. but an adjustable one would be the way to go definately..

Post up a how-to thread with the instructions etc so those of who can will and those who cant can purchase..

Not sure if it's compatible with the petrol engine. I don't know anyone with a petrol hilux to test it.

Installation would require you to solder a few wires into the wiring harness (about 10min work) and drill a hole to mount the switch (or if you don't have a dash dimmer switch just remove the round blanking plate and there is a perfect hole there)

HAHAHAHAHA. No way I'm posting a how to thread just yet. Sorry, but I have spent way too much $$$$ and time to just give it away. Maybe down the track.

Doesn't have anything to do with the power heat feature

Switch has an adjustment on the rear of it. factory idle up to about 2500rpm. I can change the circuit to go higher, but I didn't see the need to have an idle higher the 2500rpm

I will continue to look for a way to make an on-the-fly adjustable unit, but so far I have not been able to find the parts needed.

Fantastic! Damn this is the best news I've heard all week!

A single switch (ie non adjustable on the fly) is also exactly what I was after - I've already purchased the "Idle Up" switch from custom rockers and it's been so tempting having it there with no function.

Assuming you've only wired into the pedal's harness then I see no reason why it shouldn't work on any of the fly-by-wire Hilux's, petrol or diesel

Please let us know how you did it I'm very keen to get my own sorted as soon as possible now

Can't be used as a cruise control as it is not adjustable on-the-fly. The adjustment is on the rear of the switch. So unless you can pre set it to the exact throttle position you would need to maintain 100km/h, on a dead flat road, that never has a head or tail wind, then it is useless as a cruise control.

Another method sorted, very cheap and easy to replicate. I will post the entire circuit once I've figured out the precise values sometime this weekend.
