Winch challenge build

Postby BushTuckerNed on Fri, 03 Dec 2010 7:16 +0000

Ok

I used to have a 93 dual cab lux. Did most of the good stuff on that. Had the big block 22r, it would rev till the needle hit the stopper all day and loved it

I started competing as a navi in winch challenges. With the plan to drive one day

I put a 4 point roll cage in the lux and entered in a comp they used to have called Nav Night

Basically out in the bush, doing the hard tracks.

I came first in my class and after than i wanted more

This is how the lux sat

Image

I wanted more power, so being on Ps i was going to put a V6 in the lux. Doing none of it myself it was going to cost 10g.

I decided it was better to sell the lux and buy one with a motor already in it. Looking more into insurance i found out i could get a V8

So i bought this massive beast

Image

4" body lift made from solid steel blocks
4" spring
Extended shackles
35s
Cross over steering
Twin shocks
Dual transfers
Twin airlockers
And some other bits and peices but the best bit being a VS injected V8, auto and all engineered (minus body lift)

So i sold everything i didnt need.

Took it to someone to put gq diffs and coilovers in.
Got screwed over big time....lost alot of money and was without the car for 9months
Long long story but not only did i loose all the cash and time, but everything that was done was shithouse and it all got cut out back to bare chassis

So i bought a GU front diff and took it somewhere else

So basically now the lux has

GU braced front end
GQ rear
Strengthened chassis from firewall to front
CAMs 6 point internal cage
Custom barwork
Custom arms up front - 10" King coilovers
Triangulated 4 link rear - 12" King coilovers
GU steering box
Custom extractors and 3" exhaust
150L fuel tank
37" Sticky treps on 17" Custom beadlocks - 10mm inner and outer rings, 10mm steel on inner bead
And still a big stereo because you have to have tunes

I think thats about it.

Its getting air free spool on the winch atm. The winch has also been widened, narrowed drum, bigger motor etc

Rear mount radiator and auto cooler

Heres some pics

Mate this thing is a weapon. Have you got any youtube clips of it in action?

Nah mate sorry

I have driven this thing once offroad...as the big tall monster. It went about 3 metres before the drive shafts bound up and i lost traction due to lack of flex. The guy who i bought it off said he wanted a massive 4wd with a V8 to drive around the streets in. He literally did not know how to put it in 4wd. He only lifted it and put the V8 in. The guy he bought it off put all the gear on it.

Then i have only taken it on little drives around my area...Its killing me not being able to drive it. I got the car on Anzac Day 08

Hopefully it will be 4wd ready soon

Yeah its still got the dual transfers. Im in two minds about pulling them out and running a GQ transfer.

But i just dont want to spend the money getting the drive shafts modded again. But i have been told the link between the two cases in weak so i may smash it?

Its a Marlin Crawler kit. I dont know to much else about it, i have the paperwork still somewhere.

Ive used them once to see how low it goes and my brakes wont stop it. They need an upgrade

my brakes wont work in compound low either, its just the way it is, no brakes will stop it because theres just too much torque going to it, you have to be ready to shift it into nuetral if you want to stop, but your going soo slooow anyway it doesnt really matter.

Wicked looking rig mate. Be good to see it in action.
I say wait and see on the strength of your t-case setup. If you keep changing stuff you never get to drive it or see the fruits of your labours (or $).

Pity about all the ot talk in your thread.

I'm not critising because it looks damn good but the rear axle looks like it should be further back.

Yeah the rear has been moved forward..the first muppet that had a go at the suspension made it hit the tank

But the car is already long, i wouldnt want it pushed back any futher...even if it looks a bit funny
