Postby mblux on Mon, 04 Nov 2013 5:23 +0000

FIRST a big thanks to all you guys on newhilux for the info shared on this forum , I have been a member since 2008 and had a holiday for a while . now back with a build I wanted to do back then but was unable . the urge never left and is now a reality the first aussie built fatlux is complete , the hilux is 2010 sr auto , 16x10 rims with 35 "bighorns -44 offset no steering stops and full travel under flex . lovells brand new extreme shocks will be fitted in next few weeks , and a host of other mods every where .

the truck has been very heavily modified to get it all to work it s not just bolt on bits ,it has preliminary engineering done and will be 100 % adr complient in nsw .it has been a big process importing these components and making it all work and be complient , we will with time be doing more of this next year on hiluxs , our next one in line is a 200 series a very similar project .

any way enjoy the pics and thanks guys of newhilux cheers mark

I was going to ask about the 2 snorkels.
If it can't go where I want to go, then it is either useless, or I 'm not thinking straight.

How did you manage to get that track width increqase engineered? Did you replace the hubs as my understanding is you need upgraded ones for bigger tyres and track width increases....if so, what hubs did you use.

Did you support/strengthen the steering knuckles?

How do you manage to keep the tyres with that track width increase off the firewall itself? Thats a huge increase in the scrub radius......

Nice to see someone trying something different.

hi guys
no 2 snorkel feeds engine bay atm it was more about looking balanced as the 3.0lt doesn't really need any more air , the flares started out with a standard snorkel and didn't look right . it may be used if repowered later .
engineering max ? as you would know is a big job and if you are prepared to do the testing and such which aint cheap it like anything it can be done ,for a one off vehicle it wouldn't be worth it but in type approvals hopefully will be . they run 15x15 rims with 40 "tyres overseas and Toyota sell these aswell with no different hub from the info we have . saying that we aren't experts either so it all a bit of a learn curve .

scrub clearance yes as you are all aware is a big problem it depends on how much you wish to cut your truck up , as much as I need to make it work !!! the mods are pretty extensive .

I know it s not everyones cup of tea and there will be mixed opinions of it but since 2007 when I first saw these , nobody in aust has built one and I liked it enough to have a crack there will be some issues its not all finalised and we have some things to change ie suspension and no doubt there will be other things , we will need spindle braces I think but engineer not keen on then welding in to cast , so looking for some alternatives , its a development project with ongoing r&d .

it has been a very big mod know where to start with pics and things is hard I will do my best over time to post stuff up

That thing is an absolute tank. Very interesting to see something like this. Once on the road I just wonder how many times the cops would pull you over, even sometimes just for a look.

Keep the information flowing as best you can.
