RUSS LUX 04 v6

Postby rustygilb on Sun, 08 Jan 2012 2:06 +0000

I've been here for ages now so i figure ill start a build post i have a 2004 V6 hilux dual cab work mate.
when i bought it it had 80000 on the clock had ARB sliders and rear step bar and that's pretty much it.
since then i have added Mickey Thompson MTZ s 31 x 10.5 added a roll bar and a full ken wood sound system with a twelve inch sub behind the rear seat when i had the door cards off i also installed remote central locking. other than that pretty much stock.

Ive started this thread because after a recent trip to Fraser over the chrissy break i completely destroyed my clutch and squashed my exhaust just a little pretty sure this happened a few weekends ago trying to get up a rock ledge and then boiled my battery on the way home so in the next few weeks its getting lots of bits and pieces. for starters

Exedy heavy duty clutch
safari snorkel
K&N high flow air filter
extractors and two and a half inch straight threw exhaust with high-flow cat and muffler
i installed a optima yellow top deep-cycle as my main battery and rewired some stuff that's been annoying me for ages
i also am waiting on my new uni-den UHF and aerial to arrive that ll be going in soon but need to work out my bull bar situation before that thinking custom tube or xrox not sure yet.

my rear leafs are squeaking terrible so im going to pull them out and get them re coated and reset about 40 mill higher and just wind the bars up in the front for now while i save my pennies for a SAS and four-link that's about it for now.
will be posting phots soon just trying to figure it all out
cheers russ

So I was driving home for Work today and I could here something banging against my wheel well on the drivers side it was pissing down rain didn't really want to get out but I did to find that the inner guard rubber had ripped off and was only holding on by two of this stupid black clips which where f$&ed. So I ripped it off and now it's completely screwed. They must of pulled them off to get to the extractors in and just not cared when they put it back together. Oh well is there any real need for these coz under compression my wheels hit them and rip them off any way or any suggesstions or ideas on something bit heavier to put in there?

Have you still got your old rubber piece to use as a template? How do your wheels rub on that part with 31's?

Lux is looking neat mate!

so ive some ideas for this weekend will be removing my arb rear bar/ step / grater blade and taking to it with a grinder.

Image

so my plan is to take about 150mm out of each side rail and also 150 out of the two centre bars that hold the hitch in place this way fingers crossed its all still as strong but better departure angle. i will also be removing the back plate thing and spliting some 58 mm tube on the taper to go from the sides off the towhitsch back to the bar so it cant get stuck as bad as it does not. will be welding some ten mm plate to the hidden side of the bar and putting the eylets back on bolted threw the plate all goes well should have it welded back up this weekend. of not it will be next weekend

Like mitch suggested....use the original as a template for some thicker rubber. I have done the same on both my hilux's, used thick vinyl material I had lying around then bolts with washers to hold it in.

Yes you need it.

In my 03 Hilux I rebuilt the alternator twice within a small time frame because of mud getting in through the side .

you want to add a little extra size to it aswell, cover as much as possible.

another suggestion for the V6.....remove the clutch fan and fit a good thermo fan...will make a big difference especially in hot weather......that fan puts alot of drag on the engine.

Yeah max I ended up replacing the two rubber guards with a three mill reinforced stuff mad it bigger and ran it right down to the chassis rail. I have been talking to a few people that have removed the viscous fan and run thermos but none of them have used thermo stats just directly switched it from in the cab. Is there a way toget it to work with a thermostat ?

pretty sure theres a thermocouple that comes with them that you fit into the waterhose that measures the temp and you set it via a variable resistor or something along those lines...you'd have to look into it.

Went for a run up double island today pretty easy driving didn't put it in 4x4 till the leisha then had a bit of play in te soft sand to try out the new clutch. Didnt slip at all even tried bogging it in two wheel drive and low range revving it high and dropping hard and just held on really impressed. And the torque from the extractors really help in the cuttings and soft sand get the power alot earlier which is always good.

Pretty full on weekend spent all day satday up DI did the kings bore track was really boring so we decided to go for a play today out the back of yandina at some power lil e tracks nothing to hard lots of muddy holes and few rock step ups. Pretty fun little area but not to challenging except for one giant mud put at the end of the track which I have seen massive pootrols and cruisers stuck in. My mate in a 4.2 turbo cruiser on 33s got stuck in it so I thought I would give it a crack any way got further then he did both times but still didn't get all the way through. Just fun and game got pics and a few vids of us bothe attempting it wil post when up loaded.
