TJM Ox or Warn winch?

Postby elvin on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 1:40 +0000

I've got a 2000 Hilux with an ARB bull bar. I am looking at adding a winch and have got a good price on a TJM Ox 9500 lb with plasma rope. Other option is a Warn 9000 lb with plasma rope. Anyone got any info on the TJM? Plan on using plasma rope to keep the weight down. :?:

I wouldn't have either as both are over priced

You can buy 2 or 3 ox winches for the price of a warn. Cheaper winches are just as good as long as you look after them. Run them after they get wet. Water is the biggest killer. Ive got a tigerz11 and its awsome

Cheers,

Chris.

Supercheap auto 12000pound with rope $599.
Looks like tigers.
That's what I got, I tell you if I have any trouble....
Any winch could give you grief if you don't use it, motors no like water.
6.6 h.p series wound motor.
Very light.
New DENSO Injectors are the go! New genuine parts.

Check your injectors about every 10,000k.
WARNING check oil pickup screen is clear
no chips no tune ups - why increase risk of piston cracking?

It was the solenoid. Tigerz11 sent me a new one over night for $50. I also had to rebuild the motor. The brushes were seized in their housing. All because I got it wet doing the telli track and was lazy and didnt run it until that weekend with you and it didnt work. All good now. So just a lesson to all. Even if its a warn you still have to run it if you get it wet. And no winches are covered by warrenty if they have water in them..

Cheers,

Chris.

So basically there's no warranty, they're all gonna get wet.
The less the investment the lower the loss.....?
Supercheap are pretty good, they're not like going to pull it apart, take it in and they give you a new one.
I can get them on trade discount $599 for October, if Anyone wants one.....

Yeah pretty much how I look at it. Obviously you dont want something too shit because the water will affect it quicker or worse. I recon you cant go past the tigerz winch. Good product and good customer service.

Chris.

WARN; XD9000, and 9.5XP now have solid state control boxes, 9.5XP come with wireless controller now as standard, Plasma rope is good and light but from experience a real shit to maintain. I have gone back to wire and put the original 5 year old wire back on the winch. Warn winches are completely rebuildable and covered at any ARB store or stockist for warranty. I have had the same Warn since 2006 and only ever pulled it out once for a service and new seals/gaskets
Warn have a "Magnum/Tabor" branded winch that retails for about $900.00 and has 1 year warranty and is rebuildable with all warn parts.

What maintenance were you doing to your plasma rope??

Just digging up a older thread, how are peoples tigerz11 winches going? do you need the offset feailead for a ARB delux bar with the rope or are you able to run the std fairlead that comes with it?

You need to get an offset on a commercial bar,
I've also got a 10,000 tigerz11 and can't fault it.
It pulled my lux aprox 12m through thick sludge
1m deep on the weekend.

Mines still going strong after its rebuild and new solenoid. The only reason it needed the work was I got it very wet up the Cape and didn't use it for a couple months after. It would have been fine otherwise.

Cheers,

Chris.

At the moment I'd say the Tigerz2 is best value for money, but there is a better one coming on the market soon...stronger, water proof, faster, more powerful.....thou the name of the supplier skips my mind at this point in time.

Other than that, if your handy with the tools, you cant go past a second hand Warn Hi mount and rebuild it with the good bits fitted to it.
