Rhodesy Build - Lake Field National Park

Postby Rhodesy27 on Tue, 05 Jul 2011 7:30 +0000

Took a trip up to Lakefield National Park over the weekend for a bit of a fish and to get out of the city. Was a very comfortable trip, from Lakeland things started to get abit more interesting when we finally hit the dirt (I hate highway driving). We decided to stay at Kalpowar Crossing as we didnt want to head to far up for a 2 night trip. We got to the campsite around 5pm and left about 5am sunday morning so we could fish all the spots on the way home.

We found the decent size barra just wernt on the bite. We ended up getting around 15 barra but all around the 30cm mark.

Next trip ill be goin up further towards the salt to give the fishing up there ago.

Just down from the crossing

Jealous mate, I love Lakefield NP
On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!

Looks like good weekend. We did a trip from cairns up to Lakefield on queens bday weekend, stayed at kalpowar as well. Didnt fish the main waterhole but went across the causeway and out on the bathurst heads road (which is in much better condition than last year). Like you we also got about a dozen small barra in the Marrett river, got one keeper and busted off by a good sized one. Wish I had a boat!

Last year it took 3ish hours from kalpowar to bathurst(40km) in september when there weren't too many bogs. As the causeway over from kalpowar has only been open for a few weeks the road might still be a bit damp. We managed to get stuck about 40km along the road in one short bog when we missed the bypass track the other weekend!
